I had an absolutely ridiculous experience last night. I was at wolfhound in Itaewon and a Korean girl started talking to me at the bar. She gave me a friendly push for some reason and I jokingly pushed her back. I was drunk so I probably pushed her a little bit hard than I intended, but this was by no means aggressive or violent. She didn't fall over or even move more than an inch or two. She immediately freaked out and demanded a sincere apology and threatened to call the police and have me deported. "This is Korea and I am Korean. I'll have you deported if I want." Was exactly what she said. I apologized but she wanted me to be more sincere. I thought she was joking so I told her to go ahead and call the police. About 30 mins later, the police show up and I go outside with them. I tell them that I don't speak Korean and they talk to the girl for about 5 mins. At this point I can't understand anything and I have no idea what's going on. They take my ID and immediately proceed to arrest me. I was just getting in the car when the girl's boyfriend intervenes and convinces her to call it off.

My friend once saw a man beating his wife on the street. He tried to intervene and successfully did until the police showed up. They stopped the man from hitting her and then let them go. Apparently police here do not get involved in domestic violence cases. So a Korean man beating his wife till she's bloody gets off scott free, and a Korean girl tells the police a guy pushed her at they immediately proceed to the arrest. Can Koreans just tell the police something and have foreigners arrested without any investigating? If it weren't for her boyfriend, I would have lost my job and everything else in Korea over absolutely nothing.

Never expect Koreans to be rational.

Just look at Lone Star.

Unfortunately, the police in Korea suck and are very racists. If you do get into a fight, run away quickly. If you are worried about being IDed by the opponent, knock him or her out. In a world that treats us dirty, we have to play dirty back. An unconscious person can't call the police. The horrible treatment by police has led us to these decisions.

Luckily for me, I suppose, but I haven't witnessed a man beating his wife since I've been in this country. I believe it happens but I haven't saw it.

I think if I did I'd end up beating the crap out of the guy which would mean, I might end up getting in trouble.

i recently broke it off with a korean girl and she called the cops on me laying out false accusation. using a search warrant, they proceeded to destroy my apartment and then took me to the police station. they tried to keep me from calling my school to get a translator. once everything was straightened out, they smiled and let me go. no 'hey man, sorry about your apartment' or 'as these accusations are false, you can sue her' or anything...all in all, they weren't as bad as they could have been...but they could have been nicer.

Do not expect the police here to be of any help or to be even a little fair. You are a criminal even if you proof otherwise. Just keep out of any situation that you even have to deal with the police even if you are the one making the charge or complaint. It will be your fault. It has been said here many times and the sooner people get it the better off they will be.

One of the many reasons why Korea is so far behind becoming a first world nation is the fact that their judicial system and police force are a joke. There is no equality for all in the Korean system...foreigners get bent over all the time.

The whole concept of "blood money" because the system doesn't uphold justice makes me want to vomit.

Should've just turned your back on her and ignored her. Koreans hate it when you look down on them.

I bet I'm the exception, but I had very positive experiences with the K-cops when I had my dreadful noisy neighbor problems. But K-cops are so bad because they are weak and scared. Korean males generally are very weak, scared, timid, soft little babies. If North Korea invaded the South, the latter would be totally annihilated. Remember Bassexpander's interview with the Canadian guy who runs a bar in Itaewon? That guy saw a dangerous maniac in Itaewon and he complained to a couple of cops. The latter's solution was "avoid that man". Good to know you've got that level of protection behind you if you're in a sticky spot, eh? Police incompetence is all based on the weakness, timidness, cowardice of Korean men in general. We've all seen the huge gangs of riot police in Seoul, haven't we? Well, what do they look like for the most part? Bespectacled little computer nerds, the lot of them. Laughing

A few months ago I saw a gangster-looking guy beating up on an elderly parking-meter man - he had him down and he was kicking him. I ran over to 3 cops who were walking the beat nearby, and pointed out the beat down. They had a nevous little conference and walked the other way in a hurry. Classic.

I remember seeing an old guy collapse and all the Koreans walked past with no interest. I jumped out of my car to check he was alright whilst my wife called the police and ambulance. The police turned up and put him in their car and then thought that I had hit him. Just because there was a foreigner driving, the police immediately thought I had hit him with the car.

They said they were going to detain the old man and then question him and then we were waiting for the phone call to clear us the next morning. No phone call, no conviction.

The rational for the police is completely absurd. My family were cacking themselves for 1 whole day for nothing. If you end up in a fight, just run away. Blood money in this country is terrible.

What that girl did was disgraceful, and a waste of everybody's time.

If you pushed her in a joking manner, just like she did to you....then she is an obnoxious two faced little up-start.
