8 more months until the new Star Trek movie. Every time I watch the teaser trailer, I get chills.

This movie will do to Star Trek what Batman Begins did to the Batman franchise.

So that's next May? I'm ready for a good sci-fi. I would have to go to the theater or theatre.

I'd be happier if it was being released in December as originally intended. Same thing with Harry Potter 6...from November this year to next summer? Weak.

Intriguing cast.

Simon Pegg as Scotty!!, Chris Pine as Kirk, Winnona Ryder!!!, Paul Cho from Harold and Kumar!!, Karl Urban (Pathfinder) as Bones, Leonard Nimoy........Shatner is rumoured to be making an appearence.........

I've really enjoyed the last few movies with the TNG team.........so I'm worried about all these actors completely new to Star Trek.......but, if it works, it will be awesome as it could inject a whole new life into the franchise.

With J.J. Abrams of "Alias" and "Lost" fame directing. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

I think this movie will be great. It is moving away from the commercialism of Star Trek. Its moving away from making a crappy movie with the Star Trek name to bank on the franchise.

A big example of this, is the denial of Shatner to make an appearance as old Kirk. Shatner wanted to, and Abrams shut him down.

I like the comparison to the Batman franchise. The last few Star Trek movies are like the movie Batman and Robin. The franchises hit the bottom of the barrel. Batman begins rebooted the Batman franchise. This Star Trek will will do the same.

Abrams knows not to create another "Phantom Menace". He's not going to make the mistakes George Lucas did with his prequels.

The trailer showing the Enterprise being built on Earth is great.

The problem I see with comparing it to Batman is that each of the different interpretations of Batman we've seen in film already existed in the comics. Trek, especially the old one, is characterized by Shatner and Nimoy, and like it or not they're slight campy, goofy and commercial. The Trek universe just seems a lot less open to interpretation than Batman's.

This has to be the nerdiest post I've ever made. Ever.
