Hey everyone,
I live in a rural area and there is only a Nonghyup bank here. I have been informed that they don't transfer money to the US. This is a major concern for me as I have student loans to pay every month. Can anyone suggest any remedies for this problem? If it helps, I have a KEB bank account but no KEB bank where I live.

I think internet banking could be a solution. Check with your local bank. |

Why can't they make transfers to the US? Seems odd. I use NH for wire transfers to the US all the time. |

I transfer money to Canada from a rural NH bank. It usually takes two days and is quite cheap. The last transfer I did took 17 days for some reason? |

I got told the same thing today at a Nonghyup branch in Sindaebang. When i got hold of someone who spoke English on the phone they said you couldn't transfer money abroad online, but i'm sure i've heard someone here say they could.
I went to another branch nearer my work and they said they would be able to do it.
Stay away from Nonghyup bank. They are run by farmers for farmers. Unfortunatley i don't think any other bank in Korea is much more competent. |

I bank with Nonghyup and my branch won't wire money back to Canada or the USA, but another one down the street will. I believe that the main area branch is the only one that can wire money. If you are as lucky as I was, it might be down the street, or if not, you probably should look into online banking. |

You can do all your banking (transfers etc) with NH. It took me a while to sort it all out, but once you've set it up (get your CT to go in to your branch with you if possible and help you with it if the teller doesn't speak English) you don't really need to go into a 'bricks and mortar' NH ever again. |
