Check out SuperDave's guide to buying camera gear in Korea. He's got a post of it somewhere on ESL cafe.

thanks for the mention mate

here's the link:

btw, i grew up on manual focus too ... so it's a lot of fun going old school. i don't really recommend shooting manual focus on dslrs however. it's much faster to shoot auto focus.

if you wanna play with manual focus, buy an old camera. many film slrs can be had for under $200. pick up a nice old nikon or canon with a 50mm lens, full manual ... it's a bunch of fun.

btw, i've seen that article. Some awesome stuff happening there.

I traded in my D40 for the D80 after finding a scratch on the sensor. The D40 is certainly a great camera, I would have kept it if it was in working order. It certainly has some advantages when compared to the D80. I used a couple of manual lenses with it and had some good results.
I will definitely buy another D40 in the future. One easy way to tell if a camera is legit or not is to look at the warranty paper which is in the box. If it says Nikon Imaging Korea, then it's legit. The check the serial numbers when you get it cleaned or trade it in.
