i know about the proxies. But my point was that this is ridiculous. I bet 2MB is behind it. That dickwad starting doing internet spying and arrests of unionists and activists in the wake of the Seoul protests and labor strikes. Then he shut down atek.

I feel like I'm in the friggin' PRC. C'mon, critical newspapers are "immoral" and search engines in English are "harmful".

Could the govt be any more xenophobic, racist, bureaucratic, and...fascist? Unpopular govt, voter turnout less than majority, pro-corporate system, domestic spying, censorship.

This place can make the US seem like a immigrant haven and civil liberty utopia in comparison.

I can't do my lessons without google (well, it makes them much harder) and yet I spend all day here, 9-5. On Fridays I teach 1 !!!! class. Why don't they put that class on Thursdays and send me to remote islands on that day, instead of Saturdays. Or better yet, let me stay home, sleep, then get some real work done!

I can't work on a computer that is almost entirely in Korean (Powerpoint, Microsoft Word is hard to use, I'm limited to Firefox and Winamp....and Solitaire)

Proxies don't work with google. Great. What do I do now? I can't use Microsoft Office in Korean. I'll just read books and watch Democracy Now! And if the vice principal asks why I'm not working I'll tell him I can't use Naver, Korean Office, I'll say send me home so I don't spend 25 hours a week having my ass get fat. They could give me study halls, they could give me papers to correct, they could let me proofread those god awful Englishee textbooks.

Nope! Just sit on my ass out of "duty". At least I don't have to drive to work.

I didn't clarify. They want me to teach on remote islands on Saturdays. (why not on the day I only have 1 hour of class)

I'm not paranoid. My school filters out google. When the most rudimentary of search features is being blocked at work it's not a good sign. I'll have to see if the PC bangs are blocking it, too. This is insane. But this pretty much is a fascist state here. Not extreme and full fledged dictatorship, but a state where corporate interests and the nation are married and basic liberties are going down the tubes. When you are ruled by a state that enacts free trade agreements against public opinion, forbids public assembly, forbids striking, uses propaganda, and emphasizes nationalism, you live in a fascist state or at least on your way. The education system here is extremely top-down and centralized. It still carries the specters of Chun Doo-Hwan. If some nanny decides something's bad, then it's bad.

I'm not worried. I'm just pissed off. I don't like it when my options are limited.

Is it happening to anyone else?? I'm in Jeollanam-do. When I said "my school", it's because I can't check other schools. Why would I assume it's only my local school. If anything I assume it's province wide.
