Well, I don't base my opinion on what I want to happen. But to answer the question, yes and no. I am no fan the American wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Further, American drug policy has been pushed on my country and many others and I'd like that to stop. Further further, I don't like good ideas like liberal democracy, freedom and markets being associated with force. I quite like the United States, her cultures and the people. That doesn't mean I want it to dominate the world. This also does not mean that I want China or whoever to just replace the US as a hyperpower. I'd like more balance to the world.

Yes, there was a time when England and Spain were considered super power nations like how the USA has been considered since it flexed it's muscle in WW2. I sure hope it's not going to take military action for another country to prove it's the super power like how the US did and still does. That would be scary if China flexes it's military muscle to prove it's the new global super power.

If we piss them off, then it will be and getting our butts kicked is less than ideal. When we stop buying all their crapola, then they will be hating on America.

I do believe it's true that America's days of being the global super power where it's dollar on Wall Street is the center of the world in business and finance are almost over. Needless to say, it's disappointing how things are going as it could had been just fine if we had responsible and accountable leadership. Someone needs to be held accountable for how the American people and world are being wronged. History does indeed repeat itself.

To be honest, I don't care about the "America ruling the world" meme because, when it comes to real people's daily lives (except for those in the military), it's almost totally irrelevant.

However, as this financial beast grows and grows, I'm really beginning to get nervous. The great depression was not a one/two day affair where all of a sudden everyone KNEW it was a depression. It developed over time.

It does have upside - the dollar dropped 2 PERCENT against the Yen and 2.5 percent against the Euro in *one day*. That's huge. Gold is way up (Whoever said buy gold on the board last week is a genius. I actually agreed but was too lazy to go out and do it. I'm essentially conservative with my money) So is oil. That is commodoties are up. People are hording.

I could go on but this guy explains the situation better.

I agree with this. The Great Depression was like a giant downward spiral with no exit and lasted for 10 years. One key element was refered to by FDR when he talked about fear. When people are uncertain about the future they put off spending money and that then slows down the consumer side of the economy. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
