Well, the latest redesign is supposed to fully acknowledge and deal with the original design flaws, and not just slap a band-aid on the bullet wound like the other redesigns. By the time I am back in the US in Nov. those units should be on the shelf. I will be checking mfg. dates carefully. . . It won't cost me anything to swap my system for a new one, but I don't want to have to go through this again.
In the meantime I've bought a Wii with my Chusok bonus. Now I just need to figure out how to get it modded in Yongsan so I can play some games in English. |

Well good news as this morning I get an email saying that the unit has been received at the service center. Then late this afternoon I get an email saying that it was repaired and being sent back to me. They said I should get it in 3-5 business days. So far (haven't seen or tested it yet mind you) I'm impressed.
Poemer I just read your post about when you go home it shouldn't be a problem to swap your broken one for a new one. I'm curious as to how you know this cause the U.S. tech guys said that the two choices you have is to either:
a) have it repaired
b) have a refurbished unit sent to you
Anyway I wish you luck if you do find some way to actually exchange it. Keep my updated. |

Ah, I see how that could be confusing. I bought my unit at Best Buy and paid an extra 80 dollars or so for the 2 year replacement plan, since I knew I would need it with the RRoD issue. All I have to do is take my old unit into Best Buy and grab a new one off the shelf, no questions asked.
Usually those warranty plans at the big chains are a total rip-off, but in this case I thought it was a good idea. |

| Ironically I used to work for Future Shop before coming to Korea and sold our extended warranty plans. Yeah I think for its cost it is totally worth it and I envy you. When I had it bought on base there wasn't the option unfortunately. Good luck......... |

| Well it came back yesterday (Monday) so all in all a bit over a week to have it repaired and sent back, not too bad at all. Haven't had a chance to go home and open and test it mind you cause wife gave birth yesterday, but at least it's back. Now the hockey game should arrive today or tomorrow. |

| Ok well opened it, tested it for 10 minutes or so and no problems so all appears fine. I hope this doesn't happen again. No problem at customs or anything so that was also a bonus. |
