I had a sentence written out and asked a co-teacher to see if it was ok.
He wrote down in chicken scratch some changes. That was after i said i couldn't read his writing

Could someone translate into korean these sentences.

*** thanks, my bad. I am a teacher in a middle school and this message
is intended for the school accountant.

"Good afternoon. I wanted to inform you that I ate in the cafeteria 4 times this month. The chair is nice, thank you."

좋은 오후. 나는 네번 알리고 싶었다. 의자는 좋다, 감사함니다.

is this okay ?

For a useful translation, you're going to have to point out if it's to a close friend, a co-worker peer, or to somebody higher in station than you, like a principal, unless you want your translator friends to default to the highest speech and possibly come off excessively formal to a co-worker.

After you do that, you might get some reply posts.

Hmmmm...

You could probably say something like

"좋은 오후 되세요. 제가 이번 달 식당에 4번 먹었다는 것을 알려 드리고 싶었어요. 의자가 아주 좋아요, 고맙습니다."

However... thats more of a direct translation.. who knows maybe someone else can come up with something better. I think i would probably just start with "안녕하세요" cuz Good afternoon is more of a English thing.

So something like

"안녕하세요, (title)에게 제가 이번 달 식당에서 4번이나 먹었다는 사실 알려드리고 싶었어요. 의자가 아주 좋네요, 고맙습니다."

might sound a little more korean... the only thing is the middle sentence is just kinda hard for me to come up with anything good ~~;; Not sure but it just does sound like something a Korea person would say...

Oh, you say its the school accountant? That makes it even more tricky... I would probably just call them 선생님 (I'm an accountant and thats what we call the other accountants, however, some places use 회계사님... which is really accountant... so use whatever people in your school use)

Any how how its really up to you how you want to write it.

Put 즐거운 하루 되세요 at the end of the sentence instead of the good afternoon bit at the beginning. Whose to say they will read it in the afternoon?

P.S. It's a good thing you consulted the forum, cuz if you sent it the way the dude had translated it for you, you'd have been looked at like you were a douchebag.

(I made a couple changes so you don't sound COMPLETELY Korean and make it obvious that you didn't write it yourself.)

Wow, thanks for all the replies. My korean is
no where near the level to offer a critique of
what was written in your helpful translations.


I will take it on faith that I won't sound like
a douche if I use what was helpfully given to
me by you guys (or gals). This co-teacher
is a ******, but he is one of the few teachers
that speak english here. I'm glad I sought some
help on this.

The chair thing might be ambiguous. He purchased a new fancy chair for
my apartment, so I'm just saying thanks.

Do the translations offered convey this ?

Yeah, it should convey it fine... but in case you want to emphasize it you can say:

"구해주신 의자" = "the chair you found me"

In that case change the 구해주신 의자도 너무 마음에 들어요 sentence to 그리고 구해주신 의자 너무 마음에 들어요 because if you put the 도 after 의자 it means "on top of that" - suggesting that the chairs in the restaurant are nice.
