I have my checkbook with me here in Korea. I need more transcripts so I was going to mail my transcript request form with a check. I go to the post office and they said they can't allow checks to be mailed. |

They may have misunderstood you. In Korea, a "check" is typically a piece of paper issued by a bank that represents "x" amount of cash. It essentially works like a money order but there's no payee. They may not want to mail something that is basically nothing other than bank-issued cash (since it's untraceable).
Checks, the American sense are a different thing. Since the post office doesn't normally open personal mail (well, not envelopes anyway), there should be no issue. Just seal your correspondence in an envelope and mail to wherever you need to. You needn't mention to the postal clerk what's in the envelope as it's simply assumed to be personal correspondence. |

Same experience. I made the mistake of telling them I was sending a check and they said I couldn't. I thought they had misunderstood me. They put me on the phone with someone from the main office who said checks cannot be sent though the mail. Just put the check inside a greeting card and don't mention it. |

The correct answer: Do not tell the postal clerk that there is a check in the envelope. |

It's a wonder how Koreans paid bills before ATMs and the Internet. |
