Having read JukeJohns end of contract shennanigans - I have this feeling that my time at GEPIK is coming to an end after this contract, my refusal to do after school programs and the like will probably end up with my VP tarnishing my name to other schools in the area - Bah!. Evil or Very Mad

So I wouldn't mind doing a year or so in Yeosu - WorknPlay (who have been good to me up till now) recruit for the Yeosu education board, can anyone give me the lowdown working for Yeosu PS system? Holidays? apartments? Do you have to teach at more than one school?

I fancy a year at the beach without living in a shoebox - thank you for any input - it is much appreciated! Very Happy

Just like in most cities, the schools all retain discretionary powers. One school might give you extra holiday time, some focus more on camps....some will make you stick around at school all day, some let you leave when you finish your classes. I knew one PS teacher in Yeosu that taught at 3 schools (on islands off the coast, he'd stay on one of the islands overnight, once a week....school payed for his room there, and paid for the boat rides to and from the islands). However, every other PS teacher I knew just had one school. The apartments are almost all single room kitchenette units...one person on Dolsan Island (very large island by Yeosu standards) had a two bedroom villa style place.

Since Yeosu is a relatively small place, WorknPlay should be able to give you some specific information about the school they're thinking of pairing you up with....if you figure out the name, send me a PM and I'll try and get some info for you.

Work n Play recruits for Yeosu? I thought Canadian Connections handled most, if not all, of the public school jobs in Jeollanam-do. They're able to match you up with teachers currently in your area and at your school. The network of native speaker teachers in the Jeollanam-do public school system is fairly well organized, too . . . well, as much as possible for Korea. Yeosu is a popular location though, in the area as are Suncheon and Mokpo, so you might have a little trouble getting in. But I know in Suncheon there are PS jobs that still haven't been filled, and jobs at City Hall that are close to PS contracts, so I suspect the same thing is going on in Yeosu.

There's a facebook group for Yeosu teachers if you have any more questions (Yeosu Waygooks, or something like that). Run a search on Dave's for general info on Yeosu, b/c it's all been covered many times before.
