So there is a posting for Cheongju University and they are hiring 15 new faculty members.

Looks like they want university experience too.

The pay is 2.4 with 4 months of vacation and housing. That's pretty good, especially for a university. Teaching hours are typically 12 but can go to 18 at 30k an hour. Not too bad either. Beats my current university gig.

So they say the 15 peeps are because they are doubling their English requirements in the college. Is this entirely true or is their some nightmare turnover story here we are missing?

Anyone have the scoop on this?

1) Agreed. There should be a half a million won a month bordom allowance.

2) Seems that they are expanding the program, not that there is a problem perceived by current teachers. New program, though, so enter at your own risk! We all know the 'planning' that goes into these things here.

3) They hire BAs, so it's either a decent job for a BA holder with experience or a good 'break into university work' job for MA holders.

I live in Cheong-Ju (I actually teach at Univ. here, not Cheong-ju). But 15 teachers? Sounds like a Unigwan (which may or may not be bad, I don't know).

I like my gig so I'll stay here for another year. About Cheong-ju. It's about as provincial as a city could be. Conservative, fairly boring. However, the Cheong-ju Univ. area is popular with my students, so maybe it's a nice place to be.

Don't come here if you're expecting Seoul or even Suwon.

I used to work there, and they are indeed expanding their program.
