This actually happened back in February, but I only recently read it on another site.
In a triumph for hard-hitting investigative journalism, Telegraph columnist Christopher Brooker unearthed the data that "warmist alarmists" have been trying to keep from the public: Arctic ice coverage is advancing.
Quote: |
But for some reason the warmists are less keen on the latest satellite findings, reported by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Its graph of northern hemisphere sea ice area, which shows the ice shrinking from 13,000 million sq km to just 4 million from the start of 2007 to October, also shows it now almost back to 13 million sq km. |
What does this shocking data tell us? That we've been wrong about climate trends and the loss of Arctic ice coverage? Actually, no. What it tells us is that the Telegraph employs a columnist who cannot tell the difference between summer and winter.
Sometimes, it's just too easy.

I saw a tv show/news coverage the other day where many countries are busy trying to establish some reason to lay claim to vast pieces of ocean grounds that just last year were complete ice. |

On first consideration, it sounds like some of our Dave's fringesters.
On second consideration, it sounds like some Davesters can't tell a joke when they see one (so what else is new?).
The link doesn't work. Any more from the article?
I'd bet that it was a satire.
I'm not an expert on this, but wasn't there some mocumentary on global warming being a hoax that the troglodites think was real, and keep trotting out in defense of their pseudoscience arguments?
I've been known to commit satire now and then, myself. (Shhhh!)
The line between insanely irrational satirical argument, and right wing extremist sincere argument is so thin as to be indistinguishable at times, at least to the extremists.
No, there's no global warming. It's a hoax, and the press knows it. It is all a campaign of disinformation foisted upon the world by the Commie-Liberal conspiracy of the Eastern Media Elite to derail progress and freedom.
Plug in some flaky keywords plus global warming into a search, and chances are there is someone who has said it.
To wit:

Sad. Very sad. |

Sorry, link now fixed.
The link is a well-referenced rebuttal of this guy's arguments about asbestos, which he's also a bit misguided about. If you read any of his other articles, you'll be able to tell he falls into the self-appointed sage category. Incredible that a newspaper as well-read as the Telegraph will print this stuff.
I've been able to find the link to the original article on the Telegraph website, but for some reason it won't load (perhaps they're embarrassed about it?). |

The "debunker" argument I really love is when the arctic ice is melting during the summer, and the debunker says: See! The ice is growing in Antarctica! |

The Ice Age cycle is in a warming period. At the end of this warming period there will be a sudden climactic change that will begin a new Ice Age.
The next ice age will arrive and there is nothing that will prevent it. |

Except for maybe global warming. |

Here you are wrong.
The globe you refer to in global warming is the Earth,
that is my assumption anyways.
The Earth has a recorded history within the fossil record of several ice ages.
The Earth may have even had a previous period where there was no polar caps at all.
What we do know is that when the temperate periods reach their limit there is a vast and sudden onset of an Iceage.
There are some, in the minority, who speculate of a permanent (Venusian) green house effect. |

Personally, I'm more convinced by the magnetic poles theory that was on a Discovery Channel show I watched once. A magnetic shift in the poles happens something like every 70,000 years, and we're something like 3,000 years overdue (I may have these numbers all wrong, guys, but that's the basic idea).
When the shift happens, there is massive global change over a 20 to 30 year period. We're talking the Phils. turning into a desert and Saudi Arabia becoming a rainforest. |

In geography lectures which I attended for four years we were shown the air bubbles from deep into the Antarctic ice. Once stuck in place and time, the air bubbles were collected by drilling in with a large tube and pulling the ice out like a long thin ice cream. Anyway, the particular tubes I saw had air bubbles carbon dated back 200,000 years.
The analysis that professors did clearly (to them, I've forgotten exactly what they measured) showed ice age, recession, ice age, recession just like the high, low, high, low tides. From ice age peak to ice age peak was 10000 years. The latest recession peak however, (so the warmest part) was supposed to be in the late 1980's.
Judging by the hysteria of warming now, I'd say the calculations were not too far off.
There are lag effects though, I believe. The middle of solar winter is January, though February is the coldest month. Due to ocean currents etc.
I think we are just getting started.
Does it interest anyone that us and our nearby generations to come are living in the hottest part of the Earth's cycle? |

Right. Man-made global warming, on an historical scale, is a myth. Whatever glitch we're causing just now is insignificant in the larger picture.
Al Gore is insane, by the way. |
