Was wondering if anyone else has received a call from their local health office offering to come to your home and give you a free health check? Supposedly its for foreigners married to Koreans, they're offering it as a service. I declined, seeing as I just had my yearly physical back in April.

that sounds odd. Maybe they want to blast your nads with radiation to induce sterility.

too funny Laughing

just in case things between the spouse and I don't work out, to ensure that I don't further dilute the bloodline Smile

What I do know is that there has been a large amount of research done in the medical community on imported wives; a main problem that has been identified is that due to poor language skills or lack of confidence, they will often not seek out medical treatment causing simple problems to become not so simple. Hence offering to come to your home and do it for you. However, I also know they collect the data from these exams to use in further studies examining the rate of different diseases and what not to conduct comparative studies with the general population. Make of that what you will; no different then studies done on different rates of disease within different ethnic groups conducted in other countries.

They legally cannot access my data from my four previous physicals without my consent. I'd undoubtedly have to sign a form giving consent for them to use the information they collected in whatever study they put together before they'd give me the free medical exam. Unfortunately, while I'm confident enough to get a yearly physical all by my self, I'm somewhat weary of what that type of information could be used for here.

How I know this is that I copy edit a lot of medical papers, including numerous studies in this area.

Anyway, anyone else get this type of call?

I have an E7 and work in a factory. My health check is MANDATORY.
A bus shows up, everyone gets on and we're driven to a hospital
where everything is checked. It is really a North Korean experience.
I suppose it is a good idea though. I just automatically rail against
this type of thing being a whitey and all.

Actually, anyone on the national health care plan for two years gets the free health check. It's on here somewhere: http://www.nhic.or.kr/eng/

I've got the F-2-1, soon to be F5, no letter, but I had an extensive, all-day physical via my company back in April - Free of charge.

No call for me either. My wife is the Head Nurse of her Hospital's Surgical staff. I never pay for any health care at her hospital.

Called up a few folks I know in town on F visas, no one else had received a call.

This wasn't the free two year check up, Bassexpander, it was a specific service directed towards F visa holders. They offered to come to my home.

The more I dig into this, the more it seems a bit odd. None of the doctors I know have heard anything about this, and several cautioned me about letting someone into my home under this pretext. They wouldn't go into specifics, but it raised an eyebrow.

Return Jones: Is this for work, or specifically because you're on an F visa?

tzechuk: could you give some more specifics, such as year what tests did they run, how you got your results etc?

They called me a couple of weeks ago..... (well not me but my husband)

Due to me being pregnant, my hubby agreed and the next day 3 nurses turn up! My Hubby said that it was something to do with the govt and for wives only...Whether that is true, I don't know?

It wasn't too bad, they did a few tests, I answered a couple of questions. They gave me some iron tablets and a coupon for my pregnancy clinic centre which allowed me to have 'the triple test' for free, a saving of 100k (from my clinic centre anyway).

I have heard of 1 other case here in Daejeon.
