Yes, it's that time of the year again, albiet, a bit earlier than the coat industry anticipates and even earlier than the when the leaves change color. I'm of out shoppin for a coat today, but none are to be found. I refuse to pay 50,000 to 100,000 for a synthetic jacket lighter than my shirt when I need a heavy Winter coat! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..... It's chilly willy wonka land.

Uh, where's the Winter coats? I'm seeing light synthetic jackets, but not coats. I want a Winter coat and thermal underwear. Someone told me Koreans wait until the last minute, but I refuse to live by that rule. It's futile while I shiver. An electric heater anyone? It's not for sale yet.

I lost my gear last Winter when I sent it in a box home that never made it due to going to the tropics last January upon finishing a job in the land of the great coldness. I know Korea only sells certain items by the season, unlike in western countries where you can buy it year round and get it early in time for your 1st need.

How does one get a coat and long underwear in the 1st part of October? This is a cold year where the cold comes earlier.

Considering the mercury has yet to drop below 16, how exactly are you shivering.

If you are that impatient get a korean friend to help you get one online. I got an "ok" one for 20 bucks, you can get a decent one for 50 or 60

If thats an issue for you

1) why didnt you bring a coat from home
2) HOw much do you want to shell out for a decent winter jacket?

Itaewon had a sale last week in front of the NOrth face store for 35 000, DECENT brand name winter coats. Probably gone now but.........

It usually does this "teaser weather" every year. I sure am hoping this is "teaser weather" too, and that Indian summer will come for a couple of weeks in October before the cold really does settle in. I don't complain that much about summers here, because I hate to freeze. People who love fall and winter can have it! It's also a melancholic, depressing time of year, too. Speaking of coats, I've seen a few, but nothing really thick and big. Clothes here are meant for layering. Even in December and January, you'll be hard pressed to find thick sweaters or coats.

Yeah, she's a lot cooler today. I find it rather crisp and refeshing. Had to put on a long-sleeve, thicker pullover shirt tonight to go out shopping. Left my shorts on, though.

In Cheong-ju at least I wore a short sleeve shirts and shorts today. It was cool, but no big deal.

I found a high quality leather jacket for only 100 bucks the other day. What a great deal, this thing with a sweater under it is all i'm gonna need. I bought it in an area with a lot of whorehouses and bars. Go there and good things will come.

I don't care if they have an Indian summer later or not. The fact remains that I am cold today and I was warm maybe 48 hours ago. Why is this a problem?

You can get some good clothes at a vintage shop at Dongmyoe Station, Exit #3. Go out and look left, it's right there. Really cool clothes, trench-coats, flannel shirts, sweaters, jeans, dockers, etc. They may have winter coats, too. Oh, and the price is right!

Many stores have jackets out on display. I've seen coats in some outdoor/hiking shops. Maybe its not the goose down parka you had in mind, but it should work until the temperature really drops. If you insist on a winter coat, just wait for your favorite store to get them in and use layers in the meantime.

I found my big FUBU coat (probably a knock-off, but it's been good) in APM in Dongdaemun. Just get out at Dongdaemun stadium and look North. It's one of those taller buildings with lots of lights. There are some upper floors filled with larger stuff.

Up in the Gangwon-Do mountains it feels like winter hit this past few days, so I can understand what sojourner is talking about.

Nothing to be had in the shops except a few highly priced down jackets in the newest of the outdoor shops.

gmarket or internet shopping overseas are your friends. I've just ordered some of my winter goodies from NZ online. NZ is great because its all priced in NZ$ which are worth not much Smile
