The problem Palin is going to have is that I am sure Biden is going to force her to go off the Republican script. She sounds OK when she is reading the notes she has written on her hands but in a debate she is going to be in trouble. Once she goes off script it will be obvious just how little she knows. It should be good entertainment. Maybe she will just keep repeating her script over and over (what she has been doing to this point) but I think that will make her look incompetent as well.

I think it'll be one of, if not the most-watched VeeP debates in history. On the one hand, all the Democrats will be holding their breath every time Joe opens his mouth, hoping he won't stick his foot in. He's a bright man, but woefully prone to make gaffes. On top of it, he's going to have to be watching every word he says so he doesn't come across as mean, sexist or condescending. That might make him too self-conscious to do a good job.

On the other, Republicans will be holding their breath hoping Palin can make a coherent sentence, regardless of content. I suspect she will play the victim card, no matter what Biden says, hoping she can get the sympathy vote from people who feel sorry for her.

It could be a cringe-worthy night, suitable for the record books.

The thing is, based on the recent interviews, Palin's expectations will be nil. If she refrains from projectile vomiting, the media will say she "did well".

Agreed.

Also, Palin's supporters will like what she says regardless how uninformed it is. All she has to do is get a few soundbites in, typical of what Right-ringers want to hear, regardless of how uninformed it is, and she'll have got all she needs for her base.

My pick -

Biden makes a gaffe and accidently quotes something from a previous speech made by Palin and forgets to acknowledge the source ...

Palin, therefore spots it

"Somewhat" is a single word.

Get a brain, moran!

And get used to calling her Vice President while you're at it.

She is a dimwit. Come on. You didn't see any of her interviews? Or when Katie Couric asks about the bail out she goes on a blabber about health care and job creation...
or her continued assertion that the fact that Russia and Canada are near alaska gives her foreign policy experience!
Or the "well ill find some and get em to ya" i mean, during her campaign she has kept on asserting that McCain is a champion of de regulation, then she can't even give a single example and has to be asked 3 times to give an aswer!

wake up and smell the coffee man, only the most right wing of right wingers would be able to ignore such blatant ignorance!

And shes not in office yet and has already learned to behave like Bush,
ie: if your in trouble, just start refusing sub poenas and dont cooperate with authorities.

Oh and in case you didnt realize, Obama is ahead in the polls manlyboy.

As much as I like Biden, and he was my choice for Pres. before Obama got going, he has been talking crazy lately. It hasn't been widely reported because the focus has been on the lack of access to Palin, and her screw-ups when people have talked to her, and the economy and the primary candidates. Joe actually said the fireside chats were televised. There were a few other significantly crazy gaffes, along the same line as McCain saying he'd fire the SEC chairman. So there is no guarantee Joe won't blow it.

I've already voted for Obama, and I'm still of the opinion this is his to lose, and I'm aware that Joey melting down would hurt Obama, but part of me wants them both to blow up. It would be astounding to watch.

I expect S. Palin to generally lose the debate. I also expect her opponents, mostly those in the Democratic camp, to continue self-righteously denouncing her as evil, etc. But I expect her to show a little of what she is made of in standing on that stage with J. Biden, and I wonder if he might not harm himself by actually not simply defeating her but, as this poll seems to dream of, humiliating her -- not unlike L. Bentsen's superb attack against D. Quayle for comparing himself to JFK, for all the good that did Dukakis-Bensten in 1988.

I can't wait for them to discuss FOREIGN POLICY: Biden's extensive experience and credibility vs. Palin's folksy "I can see Russia"

If you're going to write a post nitpicking spelling, you really should make sure your own is up to snuff. Laughing

She just doesn't have the chops.

Got her passport only in 2006?

Yikes!

Not my idea of 2nd in command to a "world leader."

Shorthand for demonizing her, NAVFC. See the sixty-plus pages of it here -- and I am reading from the thread as I type this resume of some of the attacks -- attacking her and hurling allegations against her womanhood and motherhood, a creepy, corrupt woman who frames others and sacrifices her babies for her own and her friends' political ambition, a right-wing nut-job, the equivalent of the Confederacy, among other things. Some of it became simply pedestrian as well, such as Rteacher's asserting that she blew people to get where she got, and his calling her "a bitch."

You have essentially spoken like this guy since her nomination, in fact.
