I noticed my 25th deposit had my usual monthly amount, but in Sept I started teaching an after school program for which I was promised a certain amount of money per hour/class.

I was kind of wondering how this would work since it's impossible really to pay out in "advance" for extra classes, which sometimes get cancelled, etc etc.

anyways.. how does OT/extra class pay work in a public school?
meaning.. when do you get paid?

At my school (and many others) the OT from after school classes works like this.

Basically you have to do a block of 20 classes. If you are teaching 4 extra classes a week, that will take 5 weeks, barring any cancellations. Once you have finished the block of 20 classes, the teacher in charge of the class/program will submit a form and you'll get paid. Last time I was paid out, I think the money was put in my account on the 13th or 14th of the month, so no correlation to payday there.

The problem is, if your classes are cancelled for any reason, you have to make them up, so they can often drag out for much longer than expected.

It works like this at my school as well BUT ALL after school teachers have to finish their 20 hour block and then we all get paid at the same time. So if one teacher has to cancel or something, everyone else has to wait. It usually takes two or three months to get paid for one 20 hour block.

?? what term?

my classes are supposed to last the entire semester.

No way am I waiting for 6 months to get paid. What if they after all this time sheepishly tell me there's no money left? or something along such lines? (I'd be shocked if this happened since I have never been deceived, etc and am treated very well here, but still.....)

it's 2 classes 4x a week, so my "block" of 20 was fulfiled a long time ago.

I'm teaching two classes after school, four days a week. I'll get paid for them in a nice big fat check at the end of the term, probably February or thereabouts when I'm getting ready to go on vacation It's the way they've always done it. I have no doubt that they will pay me. It's public school, not some sleezy hagwon. Have a little faith.

At my main HS, I do a 2x50-minute CA class once a fortnight. I usually get paid once a month for them, although the date seems to vary. I don't get an additional payslip for these extra classes, so I have to check my bank account from time to time to make sure that I've actually been paid for them. We've a contracted art teacher at our school this year who's in charge of the CA classes. Last semester he didn't notify the office to tell them that I'd worked a few of these extra classes. If I hadn't checked up, then I doubt I'd have been paid for them. The sneaky shits.

At my MS, they give me a lump sum (250,000) at the end of each semester, which is for 10x40 minute CA classes. With one thing and another, I probably only actually teach about 7 of these classes per semester, but they pay me for 10 regardless, which is a nice little kickback.
