The truly sad and scary part of this is that what she said about the bailout makes more sense than the bailout does. And what the bailout supporters say about the bailout shows an even greater lack of understanding of economics than Palin shows here.

There is some GOOD NEWS for those of you who are worried that Sarah Palin may someday actually make it to the White House!

If she does, she will be manipulated by the same puppeteers who pull the strings for any of the other candidates who may make it there so she really cannot go too far astray.

There is nothing to worry about. No need to get your panties all up in a bunch.

In the meantime, this is worth a good chuckle:

Sarah 'Miss Teen USA' Palin

Great mashup!

I'm going to dissent slightly from the conventional wisdon here and say that her response on the bailouts wasn't TOTALLY incomprehensible. I was able to make out that, contra Couric, she thinks the bailout will help average Americans economically, and that it should be seen as part of a broader effort to improve the economy.

However, it was also apparent that when she was discussing the broader economy, it was basically as an excuse to avoid addressing the bailout specifically. And also that she was repeating a bunch of catchphrases that she had filed away in her mind under the heading "stuff to say when asked about the economy".

Oh Come on! Everyone knows the bail out is trying to help americans to keep our economy afloat.. but the point was is she was asked about the bail out and she goes on a tangent about health care reform, and job creation? wtf.

Yeah, I basically agree with your assessment of what she did there. I'm just saying that the tangent was, to my ears, at least formally connected to the question. It's just that she went on for way too long, and way too slapdashedly, about the overall economy than was justified by the question.

I guess what I was trying to rebut was the implication that her answer was complete and utter gibberish. It wasn't at the same level of incoherency as, say, the Miss Carolina contestant, though I admit the comparison is an amusing one.

OBAMA DOESN'T HAVE ANY EXECUTIVE EXPERIENCE! HE WAS A COMMUNITY ORGANIZER!

SHE RAN ALASKA AND A SMALL TOWN!

I DON'T CARE HOW UNINTELLIGIBLY SHE ANSWERS A REPORTERS QUESTIONS. IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW SMART SHE IS, IT JUST MATTERS IF SHE GOT ELECTED, SOMEWHERE, ANYWHERE!

Empty barrels make a lot of noise.

Here is a new video. In this one, while standing beside Mac, she makes fun of Biden's age, and then his football predictions.

John McCain and Sarah Palin might unify the country, yet.

Against them.

The Stockton Record endorsed a Democrat for the first time in 72 years, and it did so more than a month before the election.

People, including Republicans with eyes, aren't getting scared; they're getting terrified.

Meanwhile, Palin has endorsed Islamic terrorists, as long as they are democratically elected.

Hmmmm.

Sarah Palin Endorses Hamas

How can it be that some people still pretend that Sarah Palin is suited for high office? This country has never seen someone so comprehensively unprepared for the vice presidency; Dan Quayle was Metternich by comparison. I've watched Sarah Palin's interview with Katie Couric three times, and my astonishment does not diminish. Her nonsensical answer about Russia has deservedly been highlighted, but let me focus on another question, this one concerning the export of democracy. Couric asked, "What happens if the goal of democracy doesn't produce the desired outcome? In Gaza, the U.S. pushed hard for elections and Hamas won."

Palin's answer, in full, was this: "Yeah, well especially in that region, though, we have to protect those who do seek democracy and support those who seek protections for the people who live there. What we're seeing in the last couple of days here in New York is a President of Iran, Ahmadinejad, who would come on our soil and express such disdain for one of our closest allies and friends, Israel ... and we're hearing the evil that he speaks and if hearing him doesn't allow Americans to commit more solidly to protecting the friends and allies that we need, especially there in the Mideast, then nothing will."

The issue here is not that Palin didn't know the answer. There are many possible answers to this question, some of which are right and some of which are wrong. The issue here is that she didn't know the question. Because she was apparently ignorant of the subject, she endorsed Hamas' victory, and, in essence, called for the U.S. to "protect" Islamists who seek to use democratic elections to lever themselves into power. And, of course, Ahmadinejad came to power in a more-or-less democratic election. Palin's answer was truly remarkable. A person who could be President of the United States has shown herself to be completely ignorant of one of the most vexing and important foreign policy questions of the day. Freshman congressmen know how to answer this question. Here's one possible Republican response:

"Yes, Katie, it's true that if you push for democracy, sometimes you get an outcome that you don't want. This happened in Gaza with Hamas, and I think the Bush Administration was as surprised as everyone else. So the lesson here is that you have be careful when you try to export democracy. But I still believe that, over the long-term, democracy is the best antidote to terrorism that we have. What we have to do, though, is know when to push, and know when not to push. And every day, we have to do the hard work of advocating for press freedom, and the rule of law, and for all those things that build a civil society."

See? Not that hard. Unless you don't:

a) Know what happened in Gaza;
b) Know where Gaza is;
c) Know who rules Gaza today;
d) Care.

I want to wait and see Palin on Thursday night in her debate with Joe Biden; perhaps her performance in the Couric interview was abnormally bad. But I have a terrible feeling that John McCain has placed this country - and, of lesser importance, his campaign - in an untenable position.

Obama endorsement questions Palin pick

Another early newspaper endorsement for Barack Obama, and this one is as much a critique of John McCain, particularly his judgment in picking Sarah Palin as his running mate.

Endorsing a Democrat for president for the first time in 72 years, the Stockton Record in California praised Obama as an inspirational leader.

"He has demonstrated time and again he can think on his feet. More importantly, he has demonstrated he will think things through, seek advice, and actually listen to it," the newspaper said in its Sunday editorial. "Obama is a gifted speaker. But in addition to his smarts and energy, possibly his greatest gift is his ability to inspire."

Of McCain, the editorial compared him unfavorably to President Bush, saying "He tends to shoot from the hip and go on gut instinct. The nation cannot go through four more years of literally and figuratively shooting now and asking questions later."

It also questioned the Republican for his surprise choice of Palin, who struggled in her interview last week with Katie Couric of CBS. "We worry he won't have four years," the editorial said. "If elected, at 72, he would be the oldest incoming president in U.S. history. He's in good health now, we're told, although he has withheld most of his medical records. That means Gov. Sarah Palin could very well become president. And that brings us to McCain's most troubling trait: his judgment.

"While praiseworthy for putting the first woman on a major-party presidential ticket since Geraldine Ferraro in 1984, his selection of Palin as a running mate was appalling. The first-term governor is clearly not experienced enough to serve as vice president or president if required."
