|
|
I finish my current contract on Oct. 31 and want to start work for my new school on November 10th.
How long will it take for the new school to get my Visa issuance number ?
Can they start the paper work while I'm still at my current job ?? |

Currently it is taking 5 working days to process a NEW visa confirmation number (IF all your documents are in order and it is a new visa for someone who has previously held an E2).
This will require a visa run.
You CAN begin the application process at immigration BEFORE your current job is finished IF:
a) the contracts (sponsorship) are concurrent
b) your current boss signs a LOR or (as your current sponsor) gives permission.
c) you have been at your current job for more than 9 months.
This will enable you to skip the visa run (effectively transfer your visa to the new employer (change of workplace) and then extend your status to cover your new contract period. (the fees are 60k for the transfer, 30k for the extension and 50k if you want a re-entry permit (Brits get it free; Americans (and others) lose their multi-entry when they get an extension)

I don't want an extension. I'm American, and I want a multi-entry Visa, moreover, I want to take a week off before starting my new job, hence the Visa run to Bangkok. |

LOL....
140k for a visa transfer and multi-re-entry permit is cheaper than a visa run...
BUT since you want the trip to Bangkok anyway:
a) Give your new boss your documents.
b) Leave Korea BEFORE midnight on the last day of your ARC (or you will complicate the new visa application). Hand in your ARC at passport control on the way out.
c) Your new boss submits everything to immigration the day AFTER you leave.
d) Enjoy your beach time while you wait for the visa confirmation process.
e) Have your boss e-mail you the number.
f) go to the embassy in Bangkok and get your new visa.
g) come back and start your new job.
