Right before the start of the extra round, Choi Hong-man, the South Korean giant who most of the 15,729 spectators at the Olympic Gymnasium-1 came to see, quit the fight. His corner threw in the towel, giving Badr Hari of Morocco the victory by technical knockout (TKO) in their K-1 World Grand Prix Final 16 match Saturday night in Seoul.
``Scoring a down on Badr is good enough for someone who hasn't been fighting for one year,'' Choi said on K-1's Web site. ``But I was nervous so I couldn't move well, and I made the decision to stop. It wasn't an injury, I was just concerned about my next fight.'' |
He threw in the towel not because he was hurt, but because he was "nervous" and concerned about his next fight? With a victory, his next fight would have been at the World Grand Prix Final (equivalent to the world championships). Sorry Choi, we're not buying it.

It's about time that this overrated, oversized and overdone piece of @#$!! gets removed from the public spotlight. Seriously, what has this bum done to get so much PR?
I thought his ribs were bruised or broken when I saw the fight, but now he says he was "nervous?" Gosh, worse than I thought. |

You're exactly right Troll_Bait. The next fight is pretty much the biggest event in K1. If he didn't think this fight was important then why did he enter it to begin with?
He got his *** handed to him and was ashamed to admit he was too injured to continue. |

I think it's pretty obvious what happened. |

I thought at first that they threw the towel in out of shame that the judges would try to pass that off as a draw.
He looked like he hadn't eated a good meal in months.
What a contrast to see him fight a real fighter who wasn't overwhelmed by Elephant Man's size. That Moroccan is an incredible fighter. Too bad he's such a dickwad. |

wow he quit because he is nervous about his next fight???? Bull shit. His ribs were a mess, and he looked like he'd had enough.
Apart from the freak knockdown he got, he got battered from pilar to post.
At first i thought it was a total fix that it was called a draw, but if you do the math, he got a knockdown in the 2nd, which makes it a 10-8, and the other 2 rounds were 10-9 to Hari....so fair enough I guess. But to their credit the Korean fans were booing the decision. |

Poor Hong Man. Korea bought in and gave him so many false hopes. |

I'm not too good with anatomy, but I believe he took a brutal kick to the kidneys. Given the knockdown, the fight looked like a draw to me, he didn't hurt Hong-man much other than that brutal kick.
Very few men of Hong-man's size can successfully fight against some of the worlds best athletes. It's not like he's fighting some average Joe at the bar. He probably wouldn't be a fighter at all if it weren't for his pituitary disorder, but his size is both a positive and a negative. I think he does well for himself, but will probably never be the number 1 K1 fighter.
Btw, I think the Korean crowd was booing because Hong-man didn't win. A bit of homerism, but he did get the knockdown and he hadn't thrown in the towel yet, so I don't think it deserves criticism. |

You reckon? Hari landed several very hard lefts to the body. Every time Hari landed there, you could see Choi looking to the corner and the ref like he wanted out.

Agree with you there. These guys are hard as nails. He makes the most of what he has.

Yeah perhaps. I'm not sure. They were booing when he threw in the towel, that's for sure. |

1. Heart
2. Fighter's Instinct
If you don't have these 2, you won't win.
It's like drafting tall players for Basketball just for their height. It almost never works out. |

the worst thing about CHM is that he NEVER throws an attacking move. in almost every single fight i've seen him in he just hangs back and counter punches. someone of that size should be the aggressor and not the counter puncher. i've seen entire rounds where he doesn't throw a single punch or kick - i can't understand it!
they should use the other big korean they have, i forget his name but he is almost as tall as CHM and actually THROWS PUNCHES AND KICKS!
randy kim is all kinds of awesome at the moment though, i wouldn't mind seeing him go against badr....... |

Badr Hari is a brilliant fighter - Hong Man Choi was far too slow and was being picked off all throughout the fight. The draw was a travesty but Chois ribs took a pasting - if they weren't broke they were heavily bruised - I didn't blame him in not going out for the extra round where he may have incurred some serious damage. |

He is a talentless boob. My Korean master says he is low skilled fighter. Every one knows that.. The only thing he has going for him is his size. |
