Do you mean a thumb drive or an external HDD?
If you meant a thumb drive, unless you absolutely need to try to recover the data from it, it would be FAR CHEAPER to just replace it. 8gig thumb drives are about 20k won at Seon-in plaza.
IF you meant an external USB HDD, pull the drive out of the case and replace it. You MAY be able to recover the data (depending on what burned out) but usually not.

Thumb drive.
I have all my work files on it, so I need it recovered. Some punk student mangled the input slot on my computer, which I guess in turn mangled my USB after I tried to stick it in.
So where can I get it repaired? |

My best guess would be one of the shops in the "flea market" behind the Seon-in plaza
(in the left door, 1/2 way down the hall, turn left and out the exit - walk ahead 15 meters and turn right. It will bite you in the butt)
or
maybe one of the repair guys in the plaza can fudge the connection to recover your data.

Do a google search on Freeware USB recovery .
I just used a program like that tonight.
Some things were still there. Others weren't. |

It sounds like its the connection not the flash memory so the data is probably safe. however those things are not really designed to be serviced. It could be a couple of pins touching/out of alignment, try using a pin to straighten things out.
Too late now and I hate it when people say this to me but back up your important data. The best is to email it to yourself. |

Thx for the responses.
It's definitely a connection problem; it was sketchy at first and slowly fizzled out. I can't see any loose parts when I take it apart, so it's a bit beyond what I can fix myself.
Not sure where Seon-in Plaza is, but I'll check it out. Any other repair places? I need this fixed, as I've got thousands of files of writing and teaching material on it. Have copies on my computer, of course, but as luck would have it that's also currently broken. |

If you come out of the station, turn right. Go to the end of the plaza. Look across the rail yard and you see the big blue building (terminal). To the right of that you see a building with a big GIGABYTE sign on it. that is the Seon-in plaza. |
