And East Germans used to be shorter than West Germans.
And this true or relevant how? |
I am not sure this is true since there were never reports of East Germans being malnourished. McCain's point was very clear and relevant. If you don't like McCain, that doesn't make his statement false or ridiculous. |

Okay, ytuque, why don't you spell it out for me and others. What exactly is the relevance of this statement in regards to US foreign policy?
btw, the East German statement was completely facetious. |

| The reason South Koreans are rich and therefore well-nourished and tall is that for a time they followed the almost exact opposite trade policy to that currently recommended by most US economists. So would that mean that McCain is actually condemning US policy? |

It means that North Korea is a cruel and oppressive regime. If they are willing to do that to their own people what might they do with nuclear weapons? |

| It means they won't use them because they obviously will do anything they can to stay in power. Using nukes=adios. |

If North Korea had oil
and /or
if South Korea did
and / or
if North Korea had a superpower backer .
then it would be a completly different story.
but since we are not talking hypotheticals maybe I ought not to have made this post. |

Who cares?
Why should any American care about the height of some people they have never met? Hey, communism makes people poor. Wow, what a neat new idea.
DPRK should be a Chinese, ROk and Japanese problem. Let them figure it out. |

McCain is busy talking about the dimensions of people in some isolated foreign land? What about all of us American men who are oppressed by so many bigbutted women right here in the USA? Surely he's heard us complain about the problem for years. |

I think McCain made an important point in regards to the human rights situation that many posters on this thread fail to see.
The regime is a closed state and because of its desire to maintain control, they are unwilling to adopt the necessary reforms that could feed their people.
As a result the majority of North Korean are malnurished (most only eat meat once per year) anf therefore smaller in size.
Even more, northern Koreans were historically taller than their souther brethren.
The difference in size I believe is a good argument against the North Korean regime. |

So, to follow your logic, we would have to assume that North Koreans were taller before 1950, before the government was doing that to its own people. If your argument is true, you would have to agree with that fact.
Of course North Korea is an oppressive regime, but unless McCain has some issue with height, the statement is fairly silly and actually trivialises the oppression.
It's a silly statement that came from a silly man, that's my read. |

I dunno what the average height was in 1950 but MCain was throwing some light on what NK is about. It is the correct thing to do for more than one reason.
and my points about NK still go. |

He only has slim babes around him; when you watch closely you'll see his lips curl down when big butts confront him. |
