Hey y'all,
My contract is up in a month (!!!). However, I really want to work at a public school in Seoul, and apparently those gigs don't start up until March. So I am thinking about offering to stay at my school for three more months. Does anybody know how complicated it is to get a visa extended for three months? I think my school is pretty happy with my work, and I also live in the middle of nowhere, so I doubt they've find a teacher yet.
Thanks for any help. |

Sign a contract with your current school for an additional 3 months.
Go to immigration and file for an extension.
(If you didn't already do the CRC thing, you will need one to get the extension.)
Hint: Don't take your severence pay at the end of your first contract. Take it at the end of your extension and you will get 15 months worth. If you take it after 12, you won't get anything for the extra 3 months. |

Thanks.
How complicated is applying for the extension at immigration? Just some forms? Or new transcripts, new background check, etc? A trip to Japan? Or is it simpler this time around? |

This is NOT accurate. Severance is NOT required to be pro-rated for partial years (unless you negotiate it into the contract). By LAW you get 30 days pay for every FULL year of service.

To get an extension you need:
1. Visa Extension Application
2. Passport and your Alien Registration Card
3. New contract with end date clearly marked - extension WILL end on the contract end date.
4. Sponsorship Certificate (from school)
5. A copy of Certificate of School / Business Registration (from school)
6. Processing Fee (30k won)
7. New Criminal Record Certificate (IF you have not submitted on to immigration already)
8. New Health Check Certificate (IF you have not submitted one to immigration already.
You do NOT need a visa run for an extension. It takes about 15 minutes at the counter if you have all your paperwork ready.
