I just tried to send my broken laptop back to America to get fixed and the guy at the post office said that it is "impossible and prohibited" to send a laptop through the mail. WTF?
Does anyone have any experience with sending laptops home? |

He just doesn't want to be bothered to send it. Go to a different PO.
(ie. It's perfectly legal to have a laptop mailed here, but not FROM here? Pfft. I call bullshit) |

"Bullshit" is exactly what I said to him before I walked out. I couldn't get an explaination out of him because of the language barrier.
Right now I'm trying to see if Fed Ex will do it. |

I sent a laptop Fedex to the USA about a year and a half ago.
It was a bit expensive, but there was no problem sending it. They even boxed it up for me.
I was going to send it via the post office, but they recommended Fedex as they said it would be much safer and not that much more expensive (I had a Korean friend call the P.O.). I think they probably would have mentioned at that time if it wasn't permitted. |

Thanks. I just had a co-worker call FedEx for me and it looks like they can come to my school to get the package and take it from there. I have to fill out a bunch of "this-isn't-a-bomb" forms and I'm not sure how much it wil cost but at least I can do it. Now for finding a way to get it back to Korea! |

That's the easy part. I had 2 laptops sent via USPS regular airmail without problem. |

Another post office question. Is it possible to send an international fax from a post office?
I'm pretty sure it is, and I'm pretty sure I've done it before but, yesterday when I tried they said it was not possible and I need to go to KT to do so. It was no trouble in the end as KT's just down the road and did it no problem. I might be wrong but I was sure it was possible and was just getting the run around from lazy staff who couldn't be bothered doing it.
This happens so often here but back home it'd be instant dismissal if a worker refused to do their job because either: a) it's 'too difficult', b0 they don't know who to do it and can't admit it, c) the customer is a foreigner, d) is having a bad day, e) can't be bothered, f) doesn't like the customer, or g) any or all of the above. |

Sending it for you would have caused him a lot of headache, so he didn't want to do it. However, he may not have known, because many people at the post office don't know what they are doing, but most of the time I have had no problems. I once was being held up when I wanted to send a money order, so I fussed that I had no problems before at that post office, and they should send it like they did before, and they complied.
I can understand some people don't know everything. However, to their credit, these guys were investigating unlike your guy. |
