If one re-signs with EPIK (but changes schools), is a visa run compulsory?

Thanks. Smile

Not if if the employer i.e. the superintendent of the POE, remains the same.

IF you change your primary school AND the employment is continuous (concurrent contracts) you may not need a visa run BUT you do need to go to immigration and have the change noted on your ARC (apply for a change of workplace then extend your status of sojourn (60k + 30k) AND if you want a re-entry permit added tick that box too (+50k won). This is usually NOT considered as a renewal and you lose your home leave and airticket.

IF you change schools and the employment IS CONTINUOUS but changing cities or POEs and you have a LOR from the first school and a contract from the 2nd school you can do it without a visa run BUT you lose the return airticket from your 1st school (to qualify for the return airfare you must leave Korea within 10 days of your contract ending).

IF you leave Korea (take a beach holiday) and do a visa run at the same time/in the same country you get your time off (albeit without pay), airtickets paid for (1st school pays your way to the beach, 2nd school pays your way back to Korea) and start your job when you/they are ready.

Only your local immigration office know for sure whether they will make you do a visa run or not.
