I gave the first debate to McCain. I found it hard to swallow and reason why Obama did not go to Afghanistan. That seems like something any reasonable person would do that is running for office. I felt like McCain slightly pulled out that debate.

That said, here so far.... Palin is a wreck. She sticks to script way too much. I'm listening to the Budget cuts in light of the economy. Palin ignored it and said she has only been at it five weeks and has made no promises. Well, she's representing McCain and his promises. They should of done what Biden did and mention cutting back on one thing and then go on the attack.

If it keeps on like this I don't think the GOP has much of a shot. These VP debates are going to make or break the election. Obama and McCain are too good to screw up during the next two debates.

She's slipping and seems a little nervous. She stuck to her guns on the gay marriage benefits thing. And the iraq war.

I like guns and low taxes, but I agree with ya.

I have to agree also. She's not doing as bad as I thought she would, because my expectations were so low, but she's not exactly inspiring confidence. When I first turned it on I also noticed that she was avoiding a lot of points by constantly changing the subject back to energy policy. Makes me think she's a bit of a one trick pony.

So it sounds like Palin supports Gay civil rights up to everything but marriage? Is that really true, that's positive if it is. I was a little ashamed the Dems don't support gay marriage. McCain also spports extending on civil rights to gays? Good for him if so. Suprises me.

Biden did well to illustrate that 3 weeks in Iraq = 6.5 years of what we spent in Afghanistan. Palin should have stepped up and disputed that.

Someone should just walk up and smack her every time she says maverick. I'm so sick of hearing that crap.

Palin's main task was to show that she is at least fairly competent to function at the big-league level.

If she came across as basically incompetent, it would have sunk the McCain-Palin ticket.

She hasn't made too many "blenders" so far (but I think she's trying her darndest to project extra cuteness in the final minutes of the debate.)

Oh man, I hate the accent. Brutal. I couldn't listen to that for 4 years. Obama all the way, baby. Can you imagine Palin as VP? That's crazy scary. Yikes.

I believe McCain's campaign sucessfully put the bar for her pretty low (and if you go back and look at the Alaska Governor's debate on YouTube she actually held her own really well).

The debate is a close one and Palin will be hailed as doing better then people thought she would.

Biden's got a good rebuttal on her Mavarick slant. I'm glad he finally tore into that, getting tired of hearing her repeat it.

The bar was set low, yes. However, they need to hit it out of the park to make up for lost ground. Anything short of a total victory I think will be a loss in the general election. She's got another shot though. These debates will make or break this election in my belief.

If you are talking about CNN it is a sample of uncommitted voters in Ohio who are watching the election and gauging it.

Agreed. Disappointingly, it was the only part of the debate that Biden really nailed. He should have hit it harder and more often. I also wish he would have offered a more forceful response to those "He voted against the troops"... fuc# I can't stand that sh#t.

What can he say? Everyone already knows he did... Laughing Really, who cares about VP nitpicking. McCain has got this election nailed, IMHO.

Biden claimed that Obama/Biden would end the Iraq war, and with McCain/Palin would be no end in sight. Palin retorted that Obama/Biden have a white flag surrender strategy. McCain/Palin will stay the course until it's won.

I like how Palin said she respects Biden for his support of Israel. (With a beaming smile, since israel-haters support obama)

Closing comments were effective. Biden was smoother throughout.
