Yeah, it does vdo of course but I didn't buy it for that. After all the player is smaller than a credit card. Kinda sub-optimal for viewing vdo, IMHO. But, the screen is nice for negotiating through the music files and menu's. You can pick up a 2g D2 online for 107,000, which includes heavy aftermarket screen cover and clear plastic case. Spend another 40,000 for a 16g sdhc card. |

I have a creative zen, which is about the same size as a cowan D2, and it is okay for viewing video for short periods of time. My bus ride is about 25 minutes long which allows me to watch one tv show. For that it is plenty good enough.
IF you want to watch movies than you might want to get something bigger. But then you have to be prepared to lug around a PMP. |

This is a great idea! Are you running this way?
So the Cowan D2 is SDHC compliant and 16 MB is within any D2 device limits on SDHC size?
Browsing through the Cowan online adds, looks like built in memory costs are like this:
107,000 2 GB
168,000 8 GB
205,000 16 GB |

I have a couple of questions about payment for this site. Can I use a foreign credit card, Korean bank card, and/or have them take the money right out of my Korean checking account? Do they charge a lot for shipping? I'll be sending it to my school |

The most popular way to pay for stuff from the internet here is by bank transfer. I do this at an ATM or through internet banking. |

Ok. I think I'm finally ready to spring for the Cowon D2 this weekend at Yongsan. Wish me luck. |

I got the D2 a couple of weeks ago when my IPod finally died (thank heavens). It is great, but it does have some video limitations. I figured the screen was about the same size as the ipod screen so it should be fine. But the problem is that it cannot remember where in a video you were when you shut it off and there is no fast forward or reverse. There is a coarse time line where you can get within about 1.5 min of where you left off. It means you'll be watching a lot of stuff twice and no way to skip the opening credits of some series you see over and over.
Still, it was never recommended as a great video player, and it is 100 x better than my IPod just for ease of adding and deleting files. |

I got the Cowon D2 a few weeks ago. I think it is overrated.
The sound is good, but not great. And it's not as loud as it claims to be.
The touch screen navigation can be a royal pain in the butt because it is generally very badly designed, at least when it comes to selecting a file to play. For some reason, sometimes you have to double tap to select an option, on top of all the other tapping you have to do.
You need reading glasses to help magnify the small screen for video. And you have to convert all the video, which typically takes 20-30 minutes for a 30-60 minute file.
The little touch screen pointer triangle doesn't actually work to prop up the player, as far as I can tell.
The redeeming feature is the long battery life.
And it might be rockboxed one of these days.
If I were doing it over again, at least for watching video, i would look for a player with a bigger screen and that doesn't require converting the video files.
Also, the D2 has this function in the utilities that suggests it can play flash files, but I can't get it to work.
On top of that, sometimes it will display my list of text files, sometimes not. And when I try to use it to read the text files, a la e-books, it is pretty worthless. There is no option for changing font size, and I can't see any option for manually moving the pages.
If others can help me solve these problems, feel free to offer suggestions.
As to Drew345's complaint, I have been able to resume within a video. Just select the video function and play. I think you can create a bookmark. But I am still learning.
The organization of functions is not exactly intuitive on the D2, and it takes a while to find out how to do stuff, apparently. |

I have a middle school student who owns one, I bought one about a month ago. Even with the English menus she knew more about operating the thing than I did, and was doing stuff with it that I didn't know was possible. The menus are not intuitive at all, but once you know what you're doing there's a lot that can be done.
I've had no problems playing flash files on mine. At least those listed as compatible.
I don't use it as a movie player ever, so no comment there. |
