Some background: A couple of mates are flying out to Korea in Dec for about 2.5 weeks to visit etc, and we are planning on doing a trip somewhere around new years +-30th dec - +-5th Jan. We've been talking about the various options, and I was hoping some of you guys would perhaps chime in with a couple of suggestions, and which places would be great around new years, and which places won't be special. In addition, we are keen to do some sightseeing and will only have about a week tops.

1. Japan.
2. China
3 Thailand
4 Cambodia

If there are any other great options, feel free to suggest.

For South African's we need visa's for both China and Japan, which may prove to be rather complicated, due to organising visas in 2 different countries.

thanks.

Bangkok and points south. Hua Hin, Koh Samui, Phuket, Krabi, Koh Lak, Koh Phi Phi, and further on down towards Krabi. You can fly out of the Krabi airport if the extremists haven't blown it up. You may even be able to make Malaysia for a day. This would make a decent, cheap, week-long vacation.

If you like getting drunk in minus -20 degrees below zero weather Cool , I would say:

Vladivostok, Russia.

900,000 won return including taxes.

www.vladivostokavia.ru/en/index.html

(It is only 600 miles from Seoul and 2 hour flight).

Great place for New Year's Eve - several niteclubs, plenty of eager to please women, cheap alcohol.

Sounds awesome. I've been to Russia before though, and if memory serves getting a Russian visa isn't the easiest thing in the world - especially trying to get a visa in South Africa (my mates) while the tickets are bought in Korea.
