Maybe that's where the high rates of stomach cancer here is coming from!
The U.K. has twice in recent years halted imports of ramyeon noodles for the irradiation they go through, detected at customs in random testing of shipments.
Fresh noodles is best. And traditional to boot. Support your local noodle shop, you know, the one with the guy making noodles in the front shop. |

Ramen noodles are junk food. Tell this to the locals, and they blink... and blink some more. |

I don't think that's true. Do you remember the scene from "Old Boy" where Choi Min-shik watches a news report about homeless people dying of malnutrition because all they can afford to eat is ramen?
Plus, the article that I provided a link for says almost nothing good about ramen. |

My doctor told me that ramien has NO nutritional value
One cup-ramien or serve of ramien has 400~700 calories and no vitamins.minerals...
its basically the same as drinking a bottle of soju...
all calories and no nutrition |

Really? I've had plenty of Koreans tell me it's not healthy. I guess if you ask kids that's like asking kids back home about pizza. Of course even if adults know it's unhealthy, doesn't mean they don't eat it. Same as back home for junk food really. |

Hey, hey now.
Don't be hard on Koreans for their dietary habits. The average Korean eats a lot more healthy than the average Westerner. We have little right to look down our noses at their dietary decisions.
We as English teachers live in a foreign country, we're (relatively) educated and for the most part we're active and young. We're in one category. Yet when we go home, everyone we see is eating junk food, Kraft Dinner, McDonalds, etc. etc. Koreans only started getting fat when these Western style foods started shoring up here.
Last Friday I was in a restaurant with my co-workers taking leaves and wrapping up mountain vegetables, spices, sprouts and tofu with them. It seemed like a standard meal for all involved. Back home, at a similar function, I'd be squirting ketchup on french fries and asking for someone to pass the macaroni salad. |

Same here. My co-teachers are always fretting about what I'm eating for dinner, so they ask me constantly about my eating habits. I'm always embarrassed to answer "ramyeon" if I haven't gone out/made dinner, because their brows instantly knit together and they'll go, "Ahhhhh, that is not GOOD! Junk food--bad food. You need to eat healthy food!" |

My students get on my case about it if they catch me eating it for breakfast in the staff room. I sometimes eat it if I forgot to buy breakfast on the way to school (we have large boxes in supply).
"Teacha! That bad you no eat please or you will fat!" |
