I saw some animals a few days ago, and I am not sure what they were.
I know they're nocturnal animals. They were near water. From a distance, they looked like racoons, but were somehow different. They were brownish. They were the size of dogs. They weren't afraid of humans that much unless you got close and were often in pairs. I wonder what they are....

You could be looking at the small Korean water deer.
Take a look at this.

It definitely did not look like water deer. For me, they looked like raccoons somewhat, but raccoons don't generally live near water, do they? The girl who was with me insisted they were muskats that she's seen in Siberia, but muskrats have long tails, and their faces looked somewhat different. Has anyone seen muskrats in Korea?

I think muskrats don't look appealing, and these critters looked more attract. I am going to go with the idea that they were raccoons of some sort and not muskrats. I just read raccoons do often live near water, and a friend from Minnesota said they sometimes do.

Google Siberian weasel for a pic, maybe that? They're around, I've seen one.

You can have a read of this as well. I have seen two of them at dusk near the Tancheon in Bundang. I think I also saw one on the road this past weekend in Gangwando as roadkill. Not sure though, it was a quick glance and roadkill is always hard to identify unless you get a close look - as opposed to traveling at 50 or 60 Km. It occurred to me that other then a few cats and a small owl, I have seen very little in the way of roadkill here. An indication of how little in the way of animal life exists here. I still haven't seen the deer, just a few varieties of small birds, including an owl.

I've been insisting that they were racoon like in my eyes, but the girl I was with insisted they were muskrats, but they didn't have the build of one, and they didn't the type of tail for that. They did have a black type mask face from what I could see just like racoons. I am going with that. They looked like attractive critters to me. I will look again for them next time I go there and try to get another look. They were in the Yangjae area near the stream which is not too far from the Bundang area, and a poster above said he saw noguri in the Bundang area.

Do they live near water at times?

The ones I saw seem to live on a small island and actually crossed to the path along the river - this is how I saw them, crossing to land after swimming the river - presumably to feed. I wonder if they raid garbage bins? Did they seem somewhat humped? The animals I saw walked in that humped way that raccoons have, and were a little shy. They turned back twice while I stood still some way from their path, as people walking by caused them to turn back twice.
