| According to my Korean textbook date is a loan word in Korean. The predicate (unconjugated) is 데 이 드 하 다. |

"(name)아니여요?" was the actual message.

I don't speak Korean....more than the few phrases that anyone picks up after two weeks in Korea. ...Basically I'm just trying to look more impressive. |

The form is (을)/ㄹ 래요. (no space, I just put the space so you can see it clearly)
It basically means: Shall we ~
먹다 --> 먹을래요.
밥을 먹을래요? - Shall we eat ?/ Do you wanna eat?
가다--> 갈래요
갈래요? - Shall we leave(go) / Do you wanna leave(go)? |
Also, Cdninkorea, you can use it in the juseyo context ("ju shil lae yo") which is really handy if, like me, you prefer to use requests rather than (even perfectly polite) commands. That's actually how I was introduced to laeyo (a Korean friend ordered something from a server using jushillaeyo) and then subsequently I came across it in Stephen Revere's beginner Korean book (where he showed the essentially "would you ____?" or "how about ____?" nature of it). |

Yeah...she was probably surprised and didn't think it was me.
I'm taking her out this Saturday...probably the movies or the park or something. I've only been around here for a couple weeks so I don't know many awesome places to go just yet. |

She was surprised you spoke Korean to her, so she said, "This isn't Shaun?"
She thought it was a Korean person because you were speaking Korean. In that case you could have told her "this is Shaun" in Korean.

Good point. Unless you have real Korean skills, use English. Who ya trying to impress? English is better anyway, for talking with Koreans, none of that cultural crap. I've heard Koreans say English is better for arguments too. |
