Yes, this would explain just how many working people are that poor. College degree or not, they both work side by side for peanuts in today's job market. Yes, a whopping 50% make less than $32K in the US. And where talking before taxes, 401K, and insurance costs.

This is pitiful how corporate America offers so little to it's people in comparison to the rising cost of living. What happened to profit sharing, pensions, benefits, and adequate living wages? Greed canceled out all these necessities that workers should have. To excuse this pinch corporate America put us in, they sold us debt to make up for shorting us on pay and benefits so we wouldn't notice a decreasing standard of living. What a shoddy job our business leaders and government have been doing for us and we're rewarding them with huge bonuses and retirement plans.

Some say Americans took out debt for frivolous spending, but the fact is that many took out debt to make ends meet while being encouraged to do so. Yes, it's well known that people often have a choice to either eat or pay the rent or take out debt to afford both while going to a full time job. That's gotta be a difficult environment to raise kids in. This is a result of unfettered capitalism.

If people are willing to work those wages, why blame corporations?

That is the advantage of actually having Unions, they can aggregate the employees into one big "gimme money".

You call it a fact so it should be easy then, for you, to indicate borrowing was fueled by a need to make ends meet vs buy a house bigger than your need, a truck bigger than your need, a cell phone you don't need, cable tv you don't need.

Some people are irresponsible in using debt to live beyond their means, but many responsible people depend on debt to make ends meet.

You've simply restated your claim. I'm just wondering if you have metrics on this.

America may be different, but in Ireland if you earn 24,000 Euro then affording a pension, car, house, heating, education etc. for kids etc. would entail spending more than you earn.

If my $32,000 is worth 25% less than it was a few months ago, am I still in the top 50%? Laughing
