I'm leaving Korea in 7 weeks with just 3 pages left in my passport. It kinda slipped my mind. Anyway, I'm going traveling before I go home (or come back to ROK), so it's time to get a new passport. I know that there's a website, but I'd like to hear from people who've actually got a new passport while here, and had their visa transferred.
Obviously when I apply for a new passport, I'll have to send my existing passport to the British Embassy. How will this affect my visa status? Will they transfer my visa for me? Will I have to notify immigration in advance? Will I have to go to immigration? Is there a visa transfer fee?
MOST IMPORTANTLY, can I get it done in seven weeks?
Thanks in advance for any info.

I replaced my passport last winter ( I am Canadian). The process was fairly painless, and at least when dealing with the Canadian Government keeping the old passport is an option. When they gave me my new passport they returned my old one, with a giant 'VOID" stamp across it. The reason that I wanted to keep it was precisely because my working visa was inside of it. I didn't notify the Korean government (Immigration I mean). I hope that doesn't catch up to me. In all honesty it never crossed my mind. When I leave the country I will simply bring my old passport with me incase there is an issue. Anyway the point being you may be able to keep your old passport with the visa sticker in it. Good luck |
