I was thinking about transferring my E-2 to SMOE in March 09. My contract with GEPIK ends in May 09.
One recruiter I emailed said: SMOE does not hire teacher who is under contract term. I advise you finish one year contract with GEPIK and apply for August 25 post next year.
Is this true? It's rubbish if it is. |

Esl Planet said: yes you can, but SMOE would be hesitant if you do not finish your GEPIK contract.
Teachers who do not finish contract struggle to pass SMOE interviews.

If somebody has a 100 hr online TEFL certificate and 2 years experience with GEPIK, what would the base salary be for the first year with SMOE? I'm considering them for next year. |

You're actually having a conversation with yourself. Just don't get into and argument and lose. |

Can anybody confirm the exact working hours with SMOE too. Is it 9-5 or 8.30-4.30? |

SMOE is full. Also, if you come in during March, you have a very good chance of coming into my Elementary school that I'm vacating.
If you thought you had it rough in GEPIK, then you have a few things coming to you. I feel VERY sorry for the next person that come to my school.
I'm the 4th native teacher, the last 3 ran early on their contract. Frankly, I'm surprised I'm still here. |

What is so bad about your school?
Do you know the answer to my pay and working hours questions? |

I'll let you come here and find out for yourself. I don't want to spoil the surprise. |

Depends on your school. You have an 8 hour work day but schools have slightly different hours. At my school it's 8:40-4:40, I know others who do 8:30-4:30, 9-5 and also 8-4
Any and all questions that you have about SMOE will inevitably be answered with "it depends on your school" . |

It was the same at the school I left. I was the third to leave early. Keeping an ear to the ground to see how long the new person (who I feel very sorry for) lasts. |

Looks like you'll fall under one of these 2 categories for SMOE for your pay.
Level F: 2.2 million won per month
Must have one of the following qualifications:
In addition to one of the requirements for Level G, ONE (1) full year of English teaching experience at accredited institutions including at the SMOE.
A teacher certification with specialization in English Education.
 A Masters degree in Education.
Level E: 2.3 million won per month
Must have one of the following qualifications:
Meet the Level G qualification with at least TWO (2) full years of English teaching experience at accredited institutions.
Employed as Level F at the SMOE for ONE (1) full year.
A Master's degree in TESOL/TEFL or in English Education.
Now for not finishing your previous contract, for SMOE they will probably not hire you. since you will show that you are undependable (not finishing your contract) and they aren't that desperate for teachers. They had a surplus of qualified applicants for September and there is no reason why it wouldn't happen again this term.
You might want to see if you can get on a waiting list for May in case a teacher bails on their contract early. |

In May 09, I'll have completed 2 full years with GEPIK and should have a TEFL certificate too. Would I start on 2.2 or 2.3 with SMOE?
I find that text confusing |

It is a bit confusing and really up to whoever does the interview at SMOE. I'm pretty sure you'd be at 2.3 though. |
