Speaking of 'scare tactics' in an election. Check out this ad from the irreverently irrelevant NDP.

Reminds me of this, from the last election:

http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/fullcomment/archive/2008/09/12/so-much-for-allegedly-damaging-tory-screw-ups.aspx

Quote:
This astonishing Harris/Decima poll result has the Conservatives at 41% to the Liberals' 26%. That's solid majority territory. (The interviews were done between Sept. 8 and 11.) The media has made a big deal about the Conservatives' minor campaign screw-ups. But apparently, the rest of Canada isn't particularly swayed by minor mistakes made by this or that war-room foot soldier.

The CBC is nakedly favoring the Liberals and manufacturing a story about screw-ups in the campaign. So much for the "issues". The National last night was just ridiculous.

That's probably a tad strong for the Cons. I think they'll pick up less than last election.

Just caught the OTHER debate. Harper was bombarded by all four opposing socialist Canadian apologizers. They tried their best to raise non-existant issues. Harper stood his ground well.

I stand by my projection; we'll see how wrong I am on the 15th!

I don't think the Greens will get a seat.

Dude, I enjoy a good round of Canada-bashing as much as the next guy, but do you think you could maybe come up with something a bit more cutting than to point out that Canada is a monarchy? I mean, we've all seen our own nation's currencies, so it's not much of a zinger to mention that the Commonwealth types have a queen as head of state.

Yeah cause Harper is likely to follow his own word.

During the debate Harper referenced efforts his government had made to lessen hospital wait-times. I was very skeptical.

http://www.nationalpost.com/story.html?id=866114

While the reductions are not massive it does show that the Cons have been both tweaking the health system and defending it.

Though, I don't think this will be possible for the next 2 or 3 years:

Quote:
Harper vows balanced budget as Tory platform unveiled

Conservative leader and Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper delivers a speech to the Canadian Club of Toronto, Oct. 7, 2008.Chris Wattie/ReutersConservative leader and Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper delivers a speech to the Canadian Club of Toronto, Oct. 7, 2008.

TORONTO -- Under increasing pressure to take more action on the economy, Stephen Harper's Conservatives rolled out a cautious platform Tuesday that will cost $8.7-billion over four years and offer modest relief for struggling Canadian manufacturers.

In a speech to unveil the platform, Harper addressed mounting criticism that his party isn't doing enough to head off darkening economic storm clouds.

He acknowledged that "there are some who are disappointed that, for four weeks, as an incumbent government we have campaigned on a plan to move forward in the same direction, instead of shifting to head somewhere else."

"That is the view that unless a plan is brand new, it's not a plan," Harper said in a prepared text of his speech to the Canadian Club of Toronto.

"But the truth is the opposite. If you are making it up in response to the latest news, or the latest change in the stock market, then it is obvious you really don't have a plan."

I'm still going with the Greens. Protest vote. But Harper almost had me.
