I found an online TEFL *diploma* (250 hours study).
Has anyone ever done this?
Is it worth while?
What does it mean for teaching in Korea? |

Who runs the course you refer to?
There is a DELTA (diploma), which is the next step up from the CELTA. |

It doesn't matter what they call it or how many hours they say it is, unless you have a TEFL degree it will be no more useful job-wise than a 100-hour course. |

Yes. I concur.
A DELTA may be useful for certain jobs, but for the run-of-the-mill TEFL course, it'd be a waste of money to pursue more than the 100 hour certificate. |

It's been quite a while, but bassexpander, could you possibly clarify which jobs / types of employers in Korea recognise DELTA?
I hold the equivalent diploma from Trinity but my preliminary search hasn't revealed any employers who are interested. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place? |

I used to teach a 250 hour diploma course. It is a wonderful program for preparing someone to teach EFL, or develop further skill. However, as stated above, a person would have to do it for personal development reasons because I really don't know if it would mean much to an employer here - or mean more money. The employer would see the results in the classroom, but probably would not appreciate it is because of the extra training you have...and probably wouldn't offer you more money if they saw it on your resume. If you want to make teaching your career though, you would love the course, and really benefit from it. |

The British Council in Seoul would pay you more for having the DELTA and you could go for management jobs there too |

I was looking up the qualifications fot the NET program in Hong Kong. One of the requirements for the job is a TEFL at the diploma level if you don't have a teaching credential. Does anyone know if the NET program accepts the online TEFL diploma? |
