so my neck and shoulders are killing me and i need a massage. are there options other than the sauna? i've seen posters, flyers etc for spas with massage but i cant tell which ones are the happy ending kind and which are safe. any hints? suggestions? back home we had a massage school nearby that let the students practice on you for a reduced rate. people are starting to look at me funny when i rub up against wall corners and chairs in an effort to release some of my muscle pain. it looks ridiculous but thats all i've got right now:( the boyfriend used to have at me with his elbows but alas, he's far away. experiences? thanks all! |

What's the matter with sauna? If you go to a good one they'll have a proper masseuse who'll charge you thirty bucks or so for a sports massage. This is sometimes a euphemism, but in a family-style jimjilbang sauna, there'll be no funny stuff. Stay away from the grotty little ones, and you'll be fine, I bet.
Beyond that...I don't know. Upscale health clubs I guess, but you'd probably need to get a membership. |

ah nothing wrong with the sauna other than i'm not really quite comfortable bathing in front of tons of people yet. or is it possible to go in just for the rub down. i'm clueless as you can tell. guess i'm not going to find somethign that does it like back home where they leave you in the room and you get under the warm blanket and they dont actually see you totally naked or at least dont mention it. body issues 4 the loss |

Look out for 'Sports Massage'
or
스포츠 마사지
I go to a place near Grand Children's Park and pay 60w for an hour.
The lady is awesome... |

I go to a Thai massage place in my neighborhood. They are legit and are popping up everywhere. |

Second on the Thai massage places. 99% of them are legit rubs, no tugs. It's highway robbery though...70/80 thou for a 90 minute session? It's like 10,000 for the real deal in country.
For preventative measures, look into a stretching/yoga class at your local gym/sauna/jjimjilbang. I've been going regularly for a month or so and my back/neck problems have really improved. |

Suwon, I assume you're joking, but if not...I think he's seriously looking to buy a table where he can put his own face 'through' the table, to avoid nose-squashing discomfort when he places his head down, face first.
What were you thinking about? |

Any of the BIG nice hotels have spas. Try W Walker Hill or Sheraton or Hilton. |

Many traditional barber shops offer massages for their customers.
Like many have said, there are some "special" barber shops, they're called "EE-Yong-Won"s...those are the ones with the multiple barber polls outside...those are the ones you stay away from....
The best place to get a massage, IMHO, is in China. What you pay in Korea is only a fraction of what you pay in China. I especially love foot massages and the legit sports massages that crack every stiff spot on your body....for $40 |

I think you may have confused this. If not, why would I pay more for a Chinese massage? |

I am not saying you have to. I am just comparing the cost of a massage in Korea to a massage in China....
When I went to a massage parlor in China:
~ I got more time for the money. Something you don't find in Korea.
~ They seemed more professional and experienced. Koreans seemed too lazy or simply unwilling to do a good job loosening your muscles.
~ Cost-
Korea~ 40,000 won to 80,000won (depending on where you go) |
