SC Firstbank will issue a VISA checkcard that I have used for overseas ATM withdrawals. It will not work for overseas purchases. If you have any problems at a branch call 1577-7744 and press 3 and they will help.
Wooribank said they will issue an international ATM card to a foreigner when I called 1588-5000 and pressed 7 but I don't have 1 and haven't tested it.
Possession of an 'international' ATM card does not mean that it will work internationally as many people can testify to.
Samsung Card will issue an International Credit Card unsecured if you work for a large chain Hagwon, public school, or university. To apply call 02-2000-8438.
KEB is a problem, they will issue International Debit Cards to foreigners but there is a catch. They want you to make KEB your exclusive international transaction bank. This may be fine for you, but it would suck for me as I KEB will not issue me a Credit Card, but they would block my Samsung Card from International transactions due to me signing the exclusivity agreement.
There is no law requiring restrictions on foreigners International Transactions, save the requirement to report transfers above $50,000 a year (w70,000,000ish at the mo). All International transfers at banks are checked and monitored so there is no need to make 1 bank your exclusive bank.
Please keep in mind some bank staff may not be very cooperative at the moment in assisting you transfer/withdraw funds internationally as they may personally blame foreigners for the current won woes. |
