Are pc bangs for gamers? Is this where they play against eachother? Can't they do it online at home?

there are like three just within one to two blocks from me and that is just the ones that i've seen so far, there might be more.

They are very nice though and comfortable. But with this country so wired, you would think they would have pc's at home. In america, you would be lucky to find an internet station so convenient which does suck majorly especially if you need to download or print on the fly somewhere.

When i look at this city, it is beautifully built for major, major international tourism. Yet for the sheer size and magnitude of restaurants and convenience chains, there aren't that many tourists in comparison. Shame.

Before I had internet, I'd frequent the PC Bang on the weekends to check E-Mail and keep in contact with people back home. Anytime I went in, I would only see kids there...probably because they didn't have an adequate PC back home that was suitable for games, or because they wanted to escape from their parents....I'd assume the latter was more likely.

I don't see any kids at the pc bangs in any of the three i went to ever.

I think that is one affect of why I'm not feeling very fond of this place yet because it doesn't feel like home. I don't see any children but lots of adults who are all dressed up abnormally(way too artificial), no laughing kids at pc bangs, always kind of uptight in the city ad nauseum..nothing to lighten the mood, no wholesomeness..

doesn't feel natural to me..

want to go to a smaller or more manageable place. I mean, it's a wednesday night and I walk out and see people dressed up like they are going to a high-class nightclub, it's freaking annoying.

I'm like in sweats and t-shirt, ya know, like a normal person. I think..

I'm like..i've got to chill. It feels perverted and too snotty to me.

since i dont have a laptop yet i'm at the pc bang literally every night. its not bad, smoky of course but i'm getting used to it. and i have often wondered why the hell you would go out to one of these things and pay to do something you can do at home. surely they have their own computers? maybe they dont want to buy the games or cant justify the expense if they only want to play a few times? or maybe its more fun with a bunch of friends yelling next to you. maybe its just nice to get out of the house. or they could live with their parents and that would certainly drive me nuts. i usually dont see alot of kids here except on weekends. i'm just glad they are here. it means i can watch my "stories" and get my internet fix.

For the kids and teenagers, their parents are not allowing them to play the computer at home. So they head out to PC Bangs. For the grown-up men, they are likely to be unemployed. At home, their mothers (or wives if married) would drive them crazy if they are just playing Starcraft and do nothing else. So they go to PC bangs and waste the little money they have.

I have a sudden urge to play sim city 3000 and create a crazy city like seoul with little organization and haphazard planning and watch the victims deal with it.

School too far away? Well

Commute too far? Well

Hospital too far? Well

Too much smog, noise pollution etc? Well

Traffic jams? Well

You've got this great subway and bus system and 20,000 unnecessary shopping stores within a block of you.

I didn't have a pc my first month so I've been in pc bangs all over...

Nicest one I've seen is Soho in Apujung...that place is classy.

For starters LAN gaming.....plenty of gamers back in he states with nice pcs sometimes went to pc cafe for exactly that reason. Playing with friends is easier in a pc bang than lugging your entire tower to your friends house. let alone multiple friends trying to set that up in a living room.

Also, few people manage to have high end computers with nice graphics cards($200+) in their homes....so unless the kid has $700+ to blow, he'll probaly just pay the $1 an hour.

Well, that's a hagwon. There are no hagwons in sim city.

I live a good half hour to 45 minutes from any emartish type store but there are tons of restaurants and shops near by that sell outlandish but impractical stuff.

There are tons of people living on my side of the street yet there is no grocery store. It's across the street and i mean way down, down the freaking street and it's VERY small. Just thinking about getting there stresses me out already. It's ridiculous.

Evidently those living on this side of the street don't need groceries.

Also, I hear someone singing almost all through the night or blaring announcements. It must be a karoake bar.

Oh yeah, I was a little tipsy the other night and so i decided to take a cab home which was basically across the street but the way i was feeling it felt like a mile. So the cab driver tells me "no u-turn" and to get out. I'm like 'what do you mean no u-turn? u mean there is no way in hell to get across the street?'

he told me to take the subway. LOL

Just like Ukon said, the companionship with friends and real time communication when you are LANing is really special, on top of that 1 dollar per hour (and maybe a free soda here and there) then it becomes a magical place to be!

When you're 12 years old and just want to get away from the dictatorship rule of parents, then simply the PC room is a good option to kill some time.

I'm looking for some pc games, right, and so i'm told they are all in yongsan which is half an hour from me on the subway.

like they couldn't spread these out, there's a game store strip in one location.

on one hand, it's inconvenient but on the other hand, it does make shopping like an adventure. i guess that's the korean mentality about it.

i guess it was extremely spoiling and too easy to have everything right at your fingertips. you never walked far and you got less exercise and gained weight easily.
