The GEPIK Orientation List of Attendees & Venue Information has been posted here: http://cge.ken.go.kr/contents/tbl_e_01_02/main_pds_list.asp

I initially thought there was a problem with one of the files, but the problem was my own. I had made a big mistake.

Instead of asking to get this post deleted, it might as well morph it into something informational.

Wouldn't it be easier to call or e-mail the dude in charge and just ASK HIM what the deal is? Seriously, why would you ask others to help you figure something out that you can solve with one simple phone call or e-mail?

kprrok, you are absolutely right, of course! I have an email form last week into Dain Bae, the co-ordinator, about the orientation, and I called her before writing this posting.

She hasn't responded to last week's email, and she was out of the office when I called today.

She is one person doing a job intended for 2 or 3 or even more people (ideally), and is thus very busy.

If even one or two GEPIK teachers respond with a "I teach high school and I'm on the list", then I will have my answer without waiting till next week for Dain to get back to me.

It's being held in Yong In at the Hyundai Learning Center.

Looks like a very nice place, but it's 3 people to a dorm room.

I changed the title of this post to indicate Yong In.

It seems every single post on 'Dave's' about GEPIK strarts with something along the lines of "I tried to get ahold of Dain Bae, but..." Does Dain really exist? Has anyone ever actually ever met this person? Wink

Three people to a room. At least a my orientation I only had to share with one psycho. Shocked

Are they going to room smokers with smokers and nonsmokers with nonsmokers? The K-idiots in charge of mine didn't even think about that. Rolling Eyes

The reason why Dain is not responding is because she's recently lost a member of her family so she's away. I think we should all cut her some slack. No flaming please, I haven't actually met the girl myself, just heard this through a mutual acquaintance.

Even if that were not the case, she's still one person doing a job intended for several people to share. It sucks for her as the co-ordinator and for us as the co-ordinatees, but there are only so many hours in the day to respond to email and phone calls, plus get your actual job responsibilities done.

I don't like when my emails go unanswered for two weeks, but I believe it's because the province needs to find Dain an assistant post-haste.

as far as smoking and non smoking goes. I was just at a Korean play last night and there were clear no smoking signs in english and korean and people just ignored them and puffed away. so i think the whole non smoking facility is just a way to let non smokers feel at ease.

The venue is the same venue that was used in June...you can smoke outside...just not inside. It's not a bad place overall...and the orientation was generally alright. I heard more complaints about the people that were there (fellow teachers) than I did about the actual orientation. Some good things...some bad things...it was just like life only shorter.

I heard numerous times from other teachers that they preferred dealing with Wenise too because Dain was not as helpful. But now Dain is the only one handling the duties. We should give her some slack, but GEPIK should have hired a second person by now.

Honestly, should we give GEPIK slack for a week, a month, or a year? If it is too long, then it is a sign that GEPIk doesn't care about foreign teachers.
