So the other day on my way home from school some students followed me. I heard this little *bang*bang* and turned around and this kid from my 5th grade class was like 6 feet behind me with a cap gun and his friends were laughing and riding their bikes. I asked them "What are you doing?" and they didn't say anything, just laughed. I crossed the street and went on.

About two blocks later I first hear squeaky bike brakes, and then the gun again. I stop. He stops. "Go! Walk! I'm walking behind you, you cannot walk behind me." Some cars and people came by and I was able to lose them.

TODAY, same cap gun kid starts shooting me with his notebook before class. I tell him "Oh that's not nice!" He laughs and says something in Korean and other students laugh.

So, readers, I need some good Korean threats that can get these naughty kids off my backs without getting me in any sort of trouble. Something I can say to them when they act like Jerk Jr. and they'll take me seriously but not enough to rat me out.

Grab him by the arm, point to your school, and ask 'Hakyo ga? Gyomusil ga?'. Take his cap gun away and give it to his homeroom teacher the next day.

In a situation like that responding in english, however sternly, likely just fuels their hilarity. As would a feeble & inappropriate attempt at swearing in korean.

Best bet I've used a few times is a sharp authoritative Ya! Hajima! (Hey! Dont do that!) & a serious glare. Their faces drop, they apologize, & they dont reoffend.

I think Schaw offered some sound advice.

I'm not sure I could ever re-create the effect of a Korean teacher scolding a student...it just wouldn't be right.

Try and remember what it was like for you being in the fifth grade...all hormon-y and stuff. Don't get me wrong, some of them are still little arseholes.

I do remember being busted for caps in elementary school...they're just really funny when you're that age.

You're being bullied by 5th graders?

Laughing

If they're from your place of work, tell the head teacher (who, if they're any good at their job, well straighten them out), and if you're on the street and you don't know them, scream "죽고래?!" (jook-eul-lae? - Do you want to die?).

Or you could just tell your mother... maybe she can talk to their mother's? (sorry, couldn't resist!)

I like what Yu_Bum_Suk suggested. Practice saying it sternly with a Korean friend to get your pronunciation right.

Do you actually say this in class?
Are you allowed to?
Just wondering.

Try this...

뽀뽀하래?

It will send 90% of Korean boys running in fear. Err...the other 10% it could create more problems with though.

Just in case you need a visual of what you are asking them...

Grab the kid, take the gun, let go of the kid, break the gun, and walk away...

They are too small and "spoiled" to get the message.

I would play along...

Nothing is as uncool as an adult playing the same game you are.

I think there's a southpark episode where they underline this phenomeon.

OP,

How long have you worked with children? I encourage you to seek emotional guidance if you want to threaten them in the manner you described previously.

Seeking revenge on kids is silly, threatening them outside of a classroom setting is stupid.

Go after their father. Follow the kid home. Ring the doorbell and have a nice chest thumping, cheek grabbing talk with his dad.

If you plan it out really well no kids will ever mess with you and your student's dads will be buying you beverages for years to come.

Or, you could end up in jail.

Pick your battles.
