Has anyone used their state court's Criminal History Record Search in lieu of a fingerprinting option? I know this is available in New York, but has anyone used it? Im getting nervous because I was told recently by a Canadian recruiter that as of a week ago Korean immigration officials will no longer be accepting local/county background checks. Has anyone else heard this??? |

The unified court check is a statewide check, and I was told by immigration that it would be acceptable. I got mine recently and had the affidavit notarized at the embassy, and I'll be submitting it to immigration within the next few weeks, when I have my new contract ready.
The document doesn't look like much, but it cost $55.
If you choose to get this check, you can't get the results by email- you have to get them sent by mail. |

Thats a relief. I actually HAVE the document already with an Apostille--I did it through an expedited process that cost a few hundred dollars. Just making sure that wasnt a huge waste of time and money, thanks! |

You heard correctly- city and countywide checks are no longer acceptable, but statewide and nationwide checks are fine. And I was told directly that fingerprints were not necessary, so the unified courts check would be OK.
Of course I didn't get the visa yet, so they can still change the policy and require fingerprints, but based on the current rules, we should be OK.
Please let me know how it works out for you. I'll do the same. |

I used Pennsylvania's online service. Gives you the results instantly and you print it out and get it notarized. I haven't actually gotten my visa yet, but it got me an application number so obviously it worked all right. |

Good luck with that. I was told online searches were not acceptable. Please let us know if it works! |

Just to update: I just got my visa using the NY State Courts check. No problems whatsoever. |
