South Korea beats Uzbekistan 3-0
SUWON, South Korea - An early strike from Ki Sung-yung and two second half goals from Lee Keun-ho helped South Korea beat Uzbekistan 3-0 on Saturday .
The friendly match was to prepare for next week's important 2010 World Cup qualifier against UAE.
Ki volleyed home from the edge of the area in the third minute for his second goal in three internationals.
Substitute Lee curled the ball into the top corner in the 83rd minute and added another with four minutes left.
It was the first match for Uzbekistan coach Mirdjalal Kasimov. The former midfielder took the job last month.
So far in the final round of Asian qualification, South Korea has one point from one match in Group Two. Uzbekistan has two straight defeats in Group One and takes on Japan on Wednesday. The top two teams from each of the two groups of five automatically qualify for the 2010 World Cup. |

The draw was extremely cruel to South Korea and they have a very hard group.
Top-2 in each group will qualify for the World Cup.
Teams finishing 3rd will get another chance - they will play each other and the winner of the play-off will take on the Oceania winner (likely to be New Zealand) for a place in the World Cup finals.

Australia
Japan
Bahrain
Uzbekistan
Qatar
Group B
South Korea
Iran
Saudi Arabia
North Korea
United Arab Emirates
South Korea's fixtures:

| The Wednesday night game times make going to these matches almost impossible. They would draw thousands more fans and make more money if they played at home on Saturday or Sunday. |

| Haven't been to a game in a while. Thinking about going to the Wednesday night game. Is Hana Bank still selling tickets, or has that changed? Like I said, it's been a while... |

This is true but in this case the dates for the qualifiers have been set by FIFA and all Asian nations will be playing on the same night. |

Grumpy Senator, Hana Bank is indeed a go. Thanks for that.
Man, I haven't been to a game since the World Cup. And I got 3rd Class seats for 50,000 then. With tickets priced at 20,000 / 30,000 / 50,000 for an under-performing Korean team, it's no wonder the Suwon Stadium was half empty on Saturday (of course, it just being a friendly may have had something to do with it)!
A 'bit' pricey if you're going on your own, but do-able. But 150,000 for the family to watch 90 minutes of semi-entertaining football? I dunno...
Here's hoping we get our 60,000 won worth, and that my son actually watches some of the game (and doesn't get a nosebleed). |

It is.
Remember you just hammered (4-0) a team (Qatar) that hammered Uzbekistan (3-0)... and Uzbekistan drew 1-1 away in Japan. Hard not to see you guys finish in the top-2 in the group. Japan will be there as well, despite this hiccup. |

| Yeah, I don't want to jinx it but it's looking good for us at the moment and I think Japan are clearly the other team which should go through. Korea's group is a lot closer, tougher IMO and more interesting. It's a bit of gamble who will go through out of S Korea, Iran and Saudi Arabia. |

you are completely right... it really is close between S Korea/Iran/S Arabia.
Anyway, here in NZ we are already wondering what the best way to avoid a spanking is. |
