yeah its actually not that bad, just frustrating when i try to search for something simple and cant find it. Like last week I tried to search for the Korean Folk Village - didnt find it. After following a map i found from the internet and the signs to the joint, I then noticed that it was whatever the phonetically romanized korean word for folk village had been used on the map. great for english speaking koreans, but not me.

i now have gideons older version on an sd card and my version on the cf card. Both are in my unit and it seems that the cf card loads as the default when i power it up and when i want to use the old version i just turn it off, pull out the cf card and then turn it on again. The software loads fine from the sd card after that so i just keep them both in the unit. havent searched for the folk village on the old one yet - still curious to see if its there though.

my version of the software has now been uploaded on megaupload. the new version is substantially larger than the old one. the zipped file is 562 megs and uncompressed the pack is more than 860 megs.

heres the link:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U095TJU7

i'm kind of wondering if theres a way to merge the poi databases to maximize the points in case one or the other has different points or just to have the regular english as well as the botched translation points too.

how about loading sdcard with english and keeping korean?
SO when u need the english u remove the Cf Card and have the old version on a sd card?
Does this work?

ummmm..i'm going to say yes to your questions.

there's two slots for data cards on the unit. the CF card slot is the one the that is loaded by default if you also have the sd card slot filled.

I have the new english version on my cf card (although the points are not really english, just phonetically romanized from korean, example costco wholesaler = koseuteukoholseilda = utterly f'ning useless).

i keep the old version (gideon's) on an sd card that is also always in the unit. When i want to search for a name in english i just uplug the unit, pull the CF card and power the unit up again and it loads the old version from the sd card.

both versions are in english - menus etc. - but if you want to search for an english name, you need to use the old version to find the name wriiten in proper english

awesome thread!

I changed to the English software some of you guys put out here. Saved my own favourites and the new software is sooo much better. Some of the menues isnt really smart designed, like saving a place isnt very smart and I think it's one more "click" to get to my favouriters. But at least im not driving IN the Han river (while actually driving on express way) Smile.

Another question though:
Is it possible to upgrade the basic "operating system" to english one aswell? If i plug "things" Smile into the usbport i just get up a korean window, and i dont have a clue what it means. I think the gps got a lot more featuer that i can't use since the "operating system" is in Korean. Someone got any inputs on this issue?

thanks for a really good forum!

Great topic, thank you Gideon.

I was trying to find a Korean model on global.gmarket.co.kr but I found only S&T Daewoo STN-7E for almost 595,000.
Could anybody please give a link the the Korean model that can be used with those English maps from megaupload?

I'm looking at picking up a navigation system this week. Unfortunately, there is still only one model which offers an English OS. The Daewoo model is actually quite inferior in technology compared to whats out there today (especially for the ridiculous English OS price they're asking); Regardless, it would still be nice to have it in English.

I plan to head into Yongsan and search for the Korean 7000 model as you suggested; but plan to bring the English OS file you're providing online with me on an SD card.

Here's the thing: The map/os file is taking forever to download (over 2 hours) due to the free download option rather than premium one offered at megaupload.
MY question: Is there another way to get the maps from you?

cheers.
Sousa

Ok, so what is the latest with the hacked GPS system for us foreigners?

Are there any new developments?
I am looking to buy a system for myself this weekend and was wondering how things had changed here.

Again, Gideon, great post man...

Second that! Have been dealing with the earlier version and all its counter-intuitive spellings (Lotte department stores are spelled "Rodeo"?!?) and would be extremely grateful for an update! Many thanks!
