|
|
I know there have got to be some camps where Koreans send thier kids away to the USA, Canada, NZ, or Aussie for a month or two. How much does it cost them to do so? Any idea?
I was at a family Xmas thing yesterday, and my mom's side of the family (cousins of mine) includes 2 teachers, a school nurse, and a Superintendant of Schools. We were all disscussing this idea yesterday.
What do the Korean parents pay? How long are the kids gone? Any other information would be greatly appreciated. |

The last school I worked at has those summer camps listed. To go to Toronto or Vancouver I think was either $1500 or $2000 Canadian for 6 weeks. I can't remember the specifics that well but it was at least $1500 Canadian! I don't think that included airfare either.
At times like this I wish my memory was better. Oh well! The price of getting older.

I just saw an article in the Korea Herald yesterday: $4,500 for a 3 week camp. I can't remember where, though.
I'll ask my students about this. Several of them are going places in the next couple weeks--US, New Zealand and the Philippines.

the average price is around 3 million for a month to 6 weeks, airfare not included, or so says a few moms I've talked to about it. |

My hagwan did a 3 week camp in New Zealand. I think it was around 3 million per student, airfare included. |

Derrek,
A co-worker of mine who is fluent in Korean (American , married to a Korean) tried to set up a camp with a plan to take the kids to Guam. Not sure of the "tuition" he was charging. He wined and dined some hagwon owners, talked to parents, etc.... He got verbal commitments from parents but in the end a number of them backed out and he had to cancel the camp and apologize to the parents who did commit to the camp. There is a lot of legwork involved in setting something like this up and if you are not established it is very hard to get one going. |

I'm not sure what city they went to. There were only 5 or 6 kids I think. I don't actually work at the hagwan so I don't know a lot of the details.
They went to a regular elementary school daily with regular New Zealand kids. Each Korean student was placed with a family of one of their New Zealand classmates. I don't know if the families were paid for accommodating the kids or not. They should have been though cause lots of crazy stuff happened! But that's a different thread...
Anyway, that's basically all they did I guess. They may have travelled and seen a few sights, but that's pretty well it. |

Ok, now you have to tell the story. What pray tell happened? Give us the sordid details. |
