I have been asked to set up a student drama club with the aim of producing a performance by Christmas. I have never done anything like this before, but I do want to make it work well. Has anyone done this kind of thing before? Does anyone have any web links that may be helpful? Any advice or ideas would be greatly apreciated. |

Keep it simple and allot a lot of time at the last minute for practicing. Get help from other teachers (especially the art teacher) if you want to put together a set. The students will want something 'funny' (i.e. silly and tacky) and few will have the talent to pull off a character very different from themselves. Expect them to be much better at melodrama than drama. Be sure that you've done your sound checks thoroughly beforehand if you're using mics.
That said this sort of thing can be a really fun way to get to know some of the students a lot better. |
