Has anyone ever bought a system from Dell in Korea? I've been looking over their website and the prices seem reasonable for some of their systems. I've always trusted Dell as a brand and found their computers to be extremely reliable and of high quality. Any pointers?

I bought from them a couple of years ago. Quick delivery, good quality for a lower-level machine (was near top of the line at the time).

One note, if you order an English OS, your keyboard will be English only, no Korean letters, at least mine was. I had to go buy a cheap one at E-Mart.

That's no problem, can use both languages fine.

I bought a dell from Hi-Mart because I'm impulsive. Normally on the dell Korea site you have to pay around 30,000 extra for Windows Vista in English but they threw it in for free. Also, they gave me a free bag. Laughing

It was 990,000 for an inspiron 1525 with 4gb of RAM. Basically, it was the same price config-per-config on the Dell website (sale in Hi-Mart because nobody wants to buy anything that isn't Samsung/LG etc.) but I thought it'd be handier to pick it up from a store.

I don't know about ordering through the website, but I think Dell is a good brand...but I wouldn't be too confident about their service if anything goes wrong...particularly if you only speak English.

Personally, I'd risk it. You'll end up spending extra on the brand name if you buy a Korean laptop for free.

I've bought two laptops from Dell Korea over the years, and both times the process was quick and easy, with fast delivery of a high-quality machine. I've never had to use their warranty support, so I can't comment on that.

I bought a Dell online from Dell Korea. Originally, because I wanted English OS, they said it would take 6 weeks. I complained and got it in 3-4 weeks. The integrated webcam kept disappearing. The motherboard fried. And, there were just too many glitches in the system to deal with. They always were prompt in sending someone out to fix the problem, even if it was the same problem month after month like the webcam. After everthing was up and running, I sold it. I will never buy a Dell (Korea) again and would advise you not to as well... But, I am sure others have had good experiences with Dell Korea. I was just unlucky.

We bought a computer for my mother-in-law on there. Great deal at the time, and was delivered in a great package. We had to wait for 1 1/2 weeks to have it built though.

The one problem with a pre-built system is that they allow for NO expansion. If the system has 1 VGA and 1HDD, that's probably all it WILL take. also, the PSU is probably the absolute minimum and a cheap brand. If you are considering upgrading in teh future, you may want to avoid it. if you're not going to do anything but use it as you buy it, it'll be cool.

No money for expansions. By the time I do have such money, a whole new system will be in order. Don't need much flexibility, just a good affordable base unit with some extra kicks included.

Then you should be fine with a Dell. I would avoid the gmarket specials, they're probably not worth it. If you do decide to go that route, make sure you check the brand names on every thing and all the fine-print details. I looked at those for a new computer for my sister, and there was all kinds of stupid little details that you could get tripped up on.

The Dell we bought for our mother-in-law was a notebook. We are very happy with it, although she barely uses it. Twisted Evil

At least us younger guys have something to use when we go there! My wife's sister loves it.

My wife bought a Dell machine (not notebook) just over 2 years ago, and it's been fine. The CD rom went bad after the first year (she had a 3 year warranty, I think) and they replaced it next day no questions asked after seeing it didn't work. We've found Dell service to be excellent.

I already have a Dell laptop, but it's coming up for four years old. It works perfectly fine, but it's too slow for many of the programs I want to run. I used to have a Dell desktop eight years ago, so I know they are pretty good machines *most* of the time.
