Everyday I look forward to going to work in order to find out how I will be insulted this time. Yesterday was a new one on me.
Our school had a booth for the neighborhood festival and some English teachers were required to wear Halloween costumes for it. The Korean teachers were given costumes that were stunningly beautiful, which accentuated their anorexic figures and long hair. The English teachers were given costumes that made them look ridiculous.
This came after my rant (silent) about how we're asked to participate in an event like Halloween in a way that is most unlike Halloween and shows no understanding of it. "You take my custom" I said to myself, "turn it around, make it something else, and then tell me what I have to do for it???" Had I done the same for Chuseok....

English teachers are usually silly. Now you want to be taken seriously in lieu of a childish holiday? Wink

this is funny. i can see how you are a bit insulted though.

geesh, racism never ends. i had that kind of treatment as well. there was toys to be given out and they gave all the cute ones to all the other kids and gave me the really gawdy one. You know, like asians don't appreciate subtle colors or something. Just like that racist bitch at merle norman who used every muddy color on my face to make me look like a halloween character or *beep* as if those pastels are just for white people. that kind of stupidity. when in fact, my undertone is pink and i'm a winter. actually whites do better with yellow undertones more than a lot of asians and icy colors or pastels look best on asians rather than the darker colors.

I've been insulted since i got here. i'm disgusted actually.

there is this man who oversees the place where i stay and he's really creepy. First, he knows i can't understand korean and he keeps talking to me incessantly in korean in a way that's really obnoxious and stupid. he just keeps staring intently at me as if that is somehow going to clue me in on what he's saying. Then when i make simple hand gestures and point to something which a toddler could understand he ignores it and pretends he doesn't understand. That bastard!

Yesterday I told him that i was flying out to tokyo. I motion flying and point to myself and tokyo which i knew he understood what i meant. He gives me this stupid ass look again as if he doesn't understand and so i do it again. Fucking asshole. Then he says to me "why?" i thought he didn't understand or spoke any english. I'm thinking none of your goddamn business why. He also watches every move i make it's disgusting. i wouldn't be surprised if he has cameras set up to peek at the women staying there. Nasty creep. He is soo rude.

Even when a foreigner couldn't speak english and they tried to communicate, i would try to understand them. I wouldn't pretend to not understand and keep speaking english as if it's a competition. *beep*

I wouldn't have told him you were leaving the country. Now he's going to rummage through your underwear while you're gone.

Nobody knows or does a think about Halloween here in Hicksville. Me bringing a bag of candy to class and making Jack-o-lanterns with my vocational classes is about all the Halloween anyone gets.

OP, don't worry too much about it, in the end, it's just not worth the time. i've got a similar experience coming up at my school: the dreaded english play. i agreed, but told my co-teacher that i'm very quiet and nervous in front of so many people, so she's decided to have me be the comic relief during the play. Sad it seems like many koreans just can't wrap their minds around the idea that maybe foreigners don't always have to be funny and ridiculous

People who want to feel insulted will always feel insulted. We wouldn't want them to run out of complaining material, would we?

Come on everyone, let's get offended!

This is what is known as flirting in Korea, this man has a crush on you and will stalk you until you give in to his desires. Six-weeks after that you'll be engaged. Lucky you.
