Hey, anybody ever used this to learn a language, is it good? Thinking of getting the korean or chinese version. It's pretty expensive too, any tips on where i might 'acquire' it for a cheaper price?

Don't know about the Chinese one, but I found the Korean Rosetta Stone less than useless. It only teaches you the most formal form of Korean, the type that you will pretty much never have to use in a day to day situation. It maybe gets better later, but I couldn't hack it for long.

When I first came here, I used one called Declan's (google it, I don't remember the web address) which was great for beginners level, especially for boosting vocabulary. There's also Koreanclass101, though haven't used it for a while, but it seems pretty useful.

i tried using podcasts but they either spoke to fast or were hard to understand. I also tried the ole youtube and usually the sound quality was horrible. Anyother good resources, and a plus if they are free.

Most worthless piece of software ever. I really need to write an in depth review and put it online so people will stop believing in the false hype.

I've used Rosetta Stone, both version 2 and 3. Korean only comes in version 2 which is unfortunate because version 3 is much more interactive and I found I was learning faster and was overall more engaged. After using V.3 I found it really hard to go back to V.2. I'd pay for V.3, but V.2 isn't worth it.

The negative reviews above are generous, it's much worse than that. A friend of mine showed me his expensive copy and we shook our heads in bewilderment at how bad it was.

The public library in my hometown has it for people who have a library card....

Also, the Army has access to every language component via its AKO system....so if you know a soldier with an ID card and an AKO email account, you can ask them to let you have access to it.....

Beg to differ. I've been using it on and off for a while now. The essential thing is too repeat every phrase before answering the questions. You wouldn't expect your kids to learn without repeating, and that should go double for us, being out of our learning prime. I don't really care about it all being in the 입니다 form. It's not hard to convert between the different endings. It's not as good as an in-person class but can be a good supplement to other forms of study, as long as you keep repeating and reading the sentences rather than just clicking through all the answers as fast as you can.
I didn't exactly.... pay for it though. Makes it easier to forgive its failings.
