As a person who DETESTS the pharmeucitical culture of the United States, I thought the article was great.
Twice in my life, I've had excruciatingly painful kidney stones. (You'd think I would have learned the first time). One of them was so painful I literally thought I was going to die, went to the emergency room, only to be pumped full of water and told to drink significantly more water. I felt fine afterwards.
Also, ANYTIME I've drank more water, I become so much more mentally alert and just feel much better. However, I am a bit of coca cola addict as well, and it gives me quick bursts of energy, but most often I just feel continously thirsty, dehydrated and a lack of energy when I do go my my coke-over-water choices for extended periods of time.
Anyways, the healthiest people I know, those who go to the gym and get on strong physical health routines, and LOOK incredibly healthy, every single last one of them drinks enormous amounts of water and doesn't drink much of anything else. I think that alone says volumes.
I'm going to pour myself a large glass of water right now. |

But it is a good indicator. Sure some factors in your diet can change the color but if your diet hasn't changed you can use your own urine color as a judge of your water intake.

Which part? The HIV denial or all the quack medical advice?

Right. Lesson learned. Keep hydrated. Now I have a 200 page book at $29.95 I want to sell you to teach you that. Hrm.

Right when you work out, you should replace your fluids, ideally with water and not soda or beer. More solid advice contained within my $29.95 book any university educated person should be able to divine. |

| The pharmeceudical companies are in the business of making money. Delivering actual cures that cost little money is not in their interest. The FDA needs to be independent of them and the PHARMS shouldn't be giving doctors free trips to conferences down on Jeju-do, and then asking them to push only their pills. That's really screwed up. |

Right. Companies like to make profits. Companies are required to risk huge amounts of money developing and testing drugs and they dare, dare I say, ask for a profit motive. An alternative is let the government fund all drug research. A great idea if you enjoy paying higher taxes. You first, okay?
Got a better solution?
I have no doubt for profit companies, be it pharma/agri/airline/automotive/electronics/wall street, will try to game the system.
Airlines are incredibly safe today, because they respond to the incentive of lawsuits and government responds to the incentives of an angry public that demands not the elimination of private airlines but the regulation of airlines. When 180 people die in a 767 that's quite noticeable by the public. When 180 die among the population taking a drug that only gets noticed by post-trial follow up studies. The public generally doesn't read medical journals or even care. |
