Just got back from Starbucks and food shopping to see my teaching building up in flames. there was smoke bellowing out of the floor where I teach. I saw the fire service on my floor so it's looking promising.

Please God, please cancel my classes for this week.

Please all pray for me to whatever god you choose.

Maybe it's on purpose.

You might not get paid for your work this past month, and be looking for a job soon.

It's a uni. Nah I don't hate my job, but the management is making us all stressed out and we could therefore do with a few days off at the moment in view of that.

Would you not be happy with cancelled classes and guaranteed pay?

They might schedule the classes for a new location, but both you and 75% of your students can claim you don't understand where the new location is.

Ach, the fire brigade managed to put it out. It was two floors below ours. I reckon we will be back on the job tomorrow. Never mind, eh?

They said it was electrical but that is bull, I reckon. There are students constantly smoking on all floors/toilets/classrooms/break rooms.

Well there's hope yet. When a Korean FD says they put out a fire, what they usually mean is they MOSTLY put out the fire for now and after some soju and samgyupsal they'll get back to fighting the rest of the fire real soon.

Perhaps if I didn't care very much about my students or school. Are you even certain no one was in the building when you saw flames coming out of it?

Don't get me wrong - I would have been delighted to see my old hagwon go up in flames if I knew no one was in it. But it does seem a little bit like an 8-year-old singing 'Joy to the world! The school burned down...'
